It has a green skin color. Once upon a time, Edible Landscaping sold it. I recall that Leon (NM) was once searching high and low for it. Don't know if he ever found it. I thought it curious for such a hardy fig was killed by the cold, while others survived.

Long Island Green. A forum friend was kind enough to give me a gift from EL but it was heavily infested with scale and it never recovered. Good memory Gene!
Hanc once told me that it produced brebas the size of lemons. If memory serves me correctly, he obtained and named Long Island Green from a local man who said it originated from Sicily.

Ray Given's comment about,"Long Island" freezing was confusing to me also, considering that Ray Given's place is farther south then Long Island. But that is the reason we have decided to test as many hardy figs as we can here. I'm starting to think there are factors that we are not aware of that effect whether or not a fig is going to be hardy in certain locations. Since we already have a large orchard of other fruits & nuts, we thought it would be nice to have fig trees in the orchard that were as large as the ones KK of New Jersey found. Those fig trees appear to be at least 12 feet tall. KK said the owner told him that he covered the fig trees the first two years. There after he did not cover them. That was obvious, when you see how tall the trees were. I don't think the owner would have been able to cover trees that big any ways. The only way you can tell if a plant will grow in a certain area, is to test here. Over the years we have lost a lot of plants that were suppose to be hardy here. But, at the same time we have plants growing here that are not suppose to be hardy here. So far the biggest discovery we have made so far, when it comes to whether or not a plant can take our cold is how well it was fed during the early spring and with what. Bob
