Resizing Images

I know this is an extra step but if we all could try to resize our pictures to a managable size, our viewing pleasure will be enhanced in quicker page displays.(even if you have a high speed connection) You can download a free image resizer from microsoft if you need to. It works really slick. IMHO we should keep images to under 70K. You can check out the size of some of the images you are viewing by right clicking on it and choosing properties. Some are just huge and do nothing except slow our viewing (and costing the website some money).

Excellent idea!! and THANKS FOR THE POST. sometimes I'm waiting FOREVERRRRRR for some page to load up.

another great option is to right click on the file and open the image with paint.
click on IMAGE, then RESIZE and set the numbers, both vertical and horizontal, down to say, 35% etc... and you have a nice screen sized print.

just an idea, most every computer has PAINT. so easy.

Another good one is IrfanView...very easy to use (if I can use it, anyone can!)...

Also, I think it's photobucket that lets you resize your pictures right there...and then when you copy the code, you're all set.

I was wondering if it was my monitor (it might be!) as some of the images are so large that I have to scroll to see it/them all.

Thanks Everyone, This is my best pickup so far... I splurged on getting some #2 & #3's this year to give me some instant gratification. Got tired of planting 1' tall twigs the last few years. I guess I've just been ordering from the wrong people in the past. Now my garden can actually have a footing... a couple of those plants after they push in the spring will easily top 4'. I know that isn't much compared to some of you... but it is when everything else you have is 1-2' lol.

I try to compress my images in Photoshop to keep them smaller but still something around 100K or less (a typical 800X600)is probably too much for people still on dialup. Some where detail isn't so important, I use 640X480 pixels and also the percentage method.

I posted a 100% crop on my regular forum and noticed it made you have to scroll horizontally even though I compressed it, so I downsized it and switched them, fixed the problem at least for me. I even annoyed myself with that one!

If you know what I'm talking about, always keep your images at 72 dpi for computer viewing and faster loadtime. Even though GW hosts only very small photos, it does take bandwidth to load lots of pics from your photo hosting site but the actual hosting doesn't cost them anything. For printing I use 300 dpi for quality larger prints.

Hi Charlie. my pix go into an old Photo Deluxe. i have several other photo thingys but like the PD because I can size in pixels. I size mine to 500 pixels but something else I do is trim them first so mostly what you get is daylilies. I am glad you started this post as some of the pix are so large, I can't tell anything about the details. Thanks again!!! Ellie
