What conifer would you place here?...

...if any? I was thinking of an upright cypress? Or grasses? I'm stumped.

To the left is fernspray gold cypress. To the right is a japanese maple viridis.

I don't have anything else planted in the right bed yet...I just feel some winter interest is needed and I don't necessarily want an evergreen shrub as I have a lot of 'round' looking bushes in my landscape elsewhere...I will be adding small grasses and some other perennials...

Thoughts? Do u think it would be too much?

My nursery has a cypress 'soft serve' on clearance right now...it's a good looking tree...only 2-3 ft right now but pretty nonetheless...
