Thanks Jan and Dax. I did notice the length of Jan's Zebrina is bare of needles. As the tree grows and continues to shed, do they tend to get rather bare in the center and along the branches, just keeping their new growth at the branch tips -- having a more open look? It is a beautiful tree and if it keeps growing as it has for the past year and a half, it's going to get huge, really fast! Kim

Yo! It's like this girls. I'm going to root a few 200 or whatever tit takes to screenthis place in with Thuja occidentalis 'Hetz Wintergreen'. It's such an incredible Thuja with no snow breakage and it is fast and not wide...which is exactly what I like. I'll add a lot of seedling species conifers as well. I'm getting into the understock/seedling sales business, plus the grafting business (going to take a minimum of six years for the grafts).....but, I see an ecclectic mix of mainly large-growing trees on my acreage. Maples, Beech, Blueberry, Raspberry, Snowberry, Viburnum, Azalea; and anything else to feed all animals and myself, create interest, fall color, and the conifers......that's the plan. I can't even begin to think of how diverse this 6 acres will be. My first seedling crop going in this fall will include: Picea abies Picea engelmannii Picea orientalis Abies nordmanniana 'Ambrolauri' (commercial seedling strain) Abies balsamea 'Cooks Blue Improved' (commercial seedling strain) Acer pseudo-sieboldianum (compatible for grafting rootstocks: Acer palmatum/circinatum/sieboldianum/shirasawanum/japonicum - all are compatible among another) Metasequoia glyptostroboides Fagus sylvatica Pinus strobus Pinus resinosa Larix decidua Taxodium distichum Thuja orientalis Tsuga caroliniana (not for grafting - all Tsuga's are to be cutting-propagated). The tree in that picture does seem to be very similar to Pinus strobus, but the needles did seem more relaxed and kinda floppy looking. The cones were held out on the end of the branches different it seems. The picture was just taken. A link to the Arboretum below (hopefully it works) listing what they have. LadyLotus, lol! I think Resin got it, a "reclining figure" by the English sculptor Henry Moore. Resin, I had also thought Apache Pine and Sequoia wouldn't grow here. Maybe a heat island effect, and also the pine might benefit from full southern exposure. Dave and Dax, glad you enjoyed! Edwin, there's not a list that I know of, and from what I can tell some plants are not completely labeled. The gardens does have a website with a database that can be helpful. Bernd, that was my thought too.
