Joan Senior is rock solid in my garden. Trouble free.
I consider it one of the better daylilies.

Thrips make white marks on the flowers which would be harder to see on a near white daylily so I'm wondering if it really is thrips. What symptoms are you seeing?

I'm seeing the pointy raised bumps on the buds before the flowers open. Pretty clearly thrips damage to me, but I'm willing to entertain any other suggestions.

I love her regardless, Ed. Once the flowers open, the raised nubs can't be seen, and, you're right Daniel, any white discoloration is invisible due to the flower color. I'm more curious than anything else - no phenomenal damage to the garden happening here.

I can see thrips on light blooms but can't see them on the darker blooms, just the damage where they suck out the petal material.

If you look into the throat of the bloom and you have things about this size - ! - crawling around, it is thrips.

The thrips would be slightly smaller than the above exclamation mark.

My Joan Senior seems to be a Thrip magnet too! Maybe it has something to do with Maryland? Ha, Ha! But once she starts blooming, I love her too much to toss her. Always a great performer.

My seedlings and stellas (maybe just because I can see them on the stellas) are thrip magnets this year. I'm really hoping they don't do too much damage to my seedlings. they haven't bloomed yet...but tons of scapes and buds :) Actually I have DL afflictions this year that I've never had before. IT's a terrible year for pests!!

Does anyone have pictures of the actual damage to the blooms? Would sure appreciate some pictures!
