I really like Negronne -- but it'd be a sad day if I could only have one variety.

I like Negronne Too.It is Just that it doesn't seem to be hardy enough for my climate.
I had my young Negronne(One year old) Buried outside for the winter and The wood complettely disintegrated.I hope it is still alive and it will come up from roots.
It was my mistake ,i should have brought it in my Garage for winter.
I had three figs that matured last year and it is something about it i can't explain ,but i like most.
I have another one really small that i was keeping it in the Garage,from a different source and it is alive and well and look similar as the one i lost.
I am going to keep it in the garage for at least three years.
One thing i did not like about it was that it had six fruits,But the first three split complettely from eye to stem Because of rain ,and lost all flavor.
The next three figs had dry wether to ripe and were delicious.Hope this will help.

Lattarula is my favorite.

I don't have a lot of experience with figs, so I don't know all the varieties too well. But I do have 3 beautiful plants. It's hard to choose, but I guess I'd have to say that my favorite is my Atreano because I just love the shape of the leaves.

It's hard to beat the taste of a big, black mission fig. Especially after it has been drying in the sun for a week.

So far, with limited experience -

For Production, the Brown Turkey that I bought last year. It was very productive at a small size.

For Taste, I think that the Petite Negra was better than Brown Turkey. This year it has lots of brebas, so may pass the Brown Turkey in production if conditions are right.

For Memory, some figs that I ate in Italy 2 years ago were better than any local figs (at the same time, also the best grapes that I ever ate).

The jury is still out on my maybe-Brunswick - last year the figs were larger than Petite Negra and tasted better than Brown Turkey, but it's too early to judge production (2 year old tree). Also for my Lattarula, which is in its 3rd year without figs, but some fresh figs that I bought locally were very very sweet & might have been Lattarula.

If I could only have one fig tree, I would try to graft several varieties onto the same tree.

Have to agree with Figfarmer...Black Mission is always top notch, SWEET and such a rich, pleasing color. I have, however, rather liked Mary Lane this past season...nice bright yellow color and mild, sweet flavor. I guess I should just shut up...my favorit one is usually which ever one I am eating at the moment. I do have some hardiness problems with Mission here in N. East Texas, best planted next to a South facing structure.

If you are a really "figmaniac" you CANNOT and will NOT
stick to one fig cultivar...
