To the title thread Am i A Fig Failure ? NO NO. May i make a suggestion,if all else fails dont give up. Grow one in container , water it, fertilize it once in a while, root prune every 2 to 3 years, use good ole potting soil you dont need nothing fancy, they have all worked for me, and in winter bring in basement, cellar, attached garage. Im not a master gardener but keep it simple in a container if your not successful in ground and you will get figs in year 2 most of the time and more figs as the tree matures. Trust me one does not have to be a rocket scientist to grow figs all to often i read about certain fertilizers, certain ways to root em, best soils etc, etc thats fine and dandy for the ones that seek the best of the best. Im always showing pictures of my trees as an example in containers what can be done so some folks who are newer to the fig world dont lose the faith but rather say i would like to try Because its not complicated. When starting off keep it simple if you try growing in containers, trust me i get lost finding my car coming out of a grocery store but can grow a fig plant and enjoy the fruit. Best Luck Martin

Sergio, I remember well that I could not send you the cuttings because they already had stated to root because you and I were having problems getting our email through to each other. So; rather then send you cuttings that might fail, I later sent you the little rooted plant instead. You were very patient and did call me a liar.....like some do. I am glad to hear that you are finding enjoyment in your LSU Gold fig. Good to hear from you again Sergio. Paully, Retirement is a special time and I can help you. I should have LSU Everbearing and Scott's Yellow cuttings to trade with you in the fall.....around the December time-frame. You have some interesting cultivars in your collection too. As you know, I specialize in the LSU bred figs and I'm not at all familiar with ANY fig known as LSU Yellow, nor with its fruiting characteristics. I once had one from LSU named "Yellow Pollinator"; but, that one was an edible male caprifig fig that produced figs the first week of June. LSU Yellow, however, could still be in my collection as some unknown LSU selection....just not sure yet. I have a few of those little known O'Rourke selections that I am studying in my "dreamed up" orchard that is only a "fig"ment of my imagination. lol again and again.....because some fignuts are just so envious of others and outright silly in their behavior (and you know who you are)!!! Maggie, I am the guy who first put James Robin's contact information on the Internet YEARS ago. That was done on this very forum after I posted certain information about a new "Shiny black" fig that I found at a local nursery. That "outing" was done with JR's permission. He was subsequently beaten up pretty badly by several fig forum members who found nematodes in some of the plants....especially by one certain big mouth forum member who now claims to be JR's good friend. What you do not know is that, I was the ONLY ONE supporting James Robin back in those days....when it looked like EVERYBODY was BASHING him BIGTIME. Forum member "Marylandmojo" threatened to file complaints to the Federal authorities against JR and I made several visits to JR's place and talked to him on the phone quite often advising him about all what was being said about him on this forum. The old man was rightfully worried.......and I hated THE FACT that "I had gotten him into that mess!!!" A year or two ago, we had yet another public BASHING of JR on the forums when yet another vocal forum member received a nematode infested plant from JR. Again, I stood up for the old man to that bashing too. Just so you know. Those are the FACTS. I am not the bad guy that a certain big-mouth forum member paints me to be. You too had a run in with this guy when you first started posting. And he knows who he is, he is the guy who wanted my "Zebra" fig reallllllly bad. This is our 4th year with our Pom Tree & boy am I beginning to understand how these tree's have been around since Old Testament Times!We have a " relaxing sitting spot" a couple of "motel chairs" & a matching round table (how retro?,LOL) shaded by the branches of this pom tree, this year we even have about a dozen poms of varying sizes hanging from those branches,most of them with that red blush that signals it won't be long till we can finally can taste the fruits of our labors,LOL.Yes!Only 4 years & it is large enough to have it's own special area! I insist that it be more of a tree than a bush,( I remember from my childhood they were always bushes) so when I give it a haircut I am RUTHLESS!This tree is hardy & stands up to me when about twice a year I decided it is time for that haircut.Hubby & friends almost have a heart attack saying things like "you are gonna kill that poor tree cutting that tree in this heat!" (Hot Texas July Sun)But this tree never even flinches, so far,it has rewarded me with even more growth! When we 1st got it, it was about 5ft tall & about 4 sticks in that pot of dirt, now it is close to 15 foot & many branches with lush emerald green leaves. Now I want more! Y'all talk of taking cuttings, I am abit unsure of where to take these cuttings, could some please explain exactly where I should take them? And when I should take them? Thanks!
