Though, the information does not include precipitation; the area is considered desert. Rain totals for the year around San Diego are from 9 to 12 inches (22.86 to 30.84 cm). As far as adding Potassium is concerned, it would depend on your soil analysis. I tend to remember a 'rule' concerning fertilization from a seminar I once took, "Don't add what you already have too much of". They transplant fairly easily. But the reality is, if you have to move it, you have to move it. So you might as well try transplanting it and if it lives, great. Joe

Anita - At first, I was under the impression you'd sprayed too much mosquito repellant on the tree and wondered how that could damage it. "Deet scarred" as opposed to "Deer scarred." Anyhow, the wound will eventually heal. Don't treat it, cover it, or put anything on it, just let nature take its course. As far as preventing further damage - either shoot the deer and eat them or put a chicken wire cage around the tree while they are moving through.
