WOW Denise, that's quite a list! i lost some of my tags so I do not know if it was the Noir de Crimee or Principe that did so well for me (from you) It had med sized tomatoes, did not get too many but they were delicious. Made a tomato eater of my d-i-l who never used to like them. I have saved tons of seeds from the ever producing yellow pears you gave me that were so successful and yummy. I also have some Campari seeds (from Publix) saved and Cherry seeds> 'Sugary' and 'Sweet Baby Girl' from Park Seeds. I am planning to order some more seeds this week from Tomato Growers in Ft. Myers.

Hi Cindee, if the tomato was red it was Principe, if it was darker colored it was Noir de Crimee. I'm guessing yours was Principe due to the med. size. I got only moderate yield when I grew it but my neighbor in Naples that I gave a PrinB seedling to got a lot more. Come to think of it you did better with Yellow Pear than I did.
I am beginning to think other people get more/better tomatoes than I do from my seedlings. Oh well. I just love growing them.
I have some good seeds for you for this season and a couple seedlings.

I hope everyone is having at least initial good luck with my little green zebra seeds. they were the first variety to come up of the eight I'm trying this year, so I'm taking that as a good sign. I would be interesting in knowing which of these varieties have done well for you. I planted six each of Brandywine, Ponderosa Pink Beefsteak and Better Boys. I did not get a single tomato off of either variety of the heirlooms, but lots off the Better Boy hybrids. They just took up a lot of garden space for nothing and it has really discouraged me.

That's a BIG question. I've grown most of them on the list and like:
Brandywine, Black Cherry, Stupice, Yellow Pear, Dr. Carolyn, Black Pear, Persimmon.
I'm growing a completely different list this season because I like trying every tomato possible.
There's nothing wrong with hybrids and I have grown them also. I just like getting seeds from trading with GW'ers and that usually means heirlooms. I also like the history and genetic diversity of heirlooms.

Try Black Cherry and Dr. Carolyn (both are cherry size) for high productivity.
And since you are up north try some of the Russian heirlooms for winter weather growing (Stupice, Krasnodar Titans, Sasha's Altai, Cosmonaut Volkov).
I've heard other people say Brandywine didn't produce for them. the last time I grew it I had a HUGE number of tomatoes from several plants. YMMV.

Why don't you post a question on the discussion forum about the best tomatoes for your area. Personally, I'm still trying one each of a bunch of different varieties of heirlooms, looking for one or three or five (stop me!) that do well with my specific growing conditions. I was disappointed with Cherokee Purple and Marmande last year. But I also figure that might have been the specific weather last year, or any other of a number of variables. So I'm still trying heirlooms. I bet there are folks in your area who have found good ones.

I also haunt the farmer's markets here in the winter and figure out what they seem to have a lot of. I have seeds of an unnamed yellow tomato sold as organic, local and heirloom that was everywhere last winter, at the coop, at the farmer's market, even discounted in the organic section of publix. I don't know what it is, but I'm planting it because the local organic farmers clearly had a heck of a crop last winter.

Update on seeds available
OUT of Cherokee Purple and Stump of the World.
Don't be sad about CP, as I mentioned in another post I didn't have great results from my growing CP. Maybe others did.

OK tomato lovers I have to close this offer for now so I can get some work done and get through the holidays.
I'll restart with a new post then.

If you are DESPERATE to start seeds before then email me anyway. Or better yet email Tom (tomcath) or Cindee (cindeea) they have seeds too :-)
