Fledgling Mourning Doves in my garden

Two fledgling mourning doves have taken up temporary residence in my front garden. It is so sweet. This morning, we scared the bejeezus out of one other as I unexpectedly walked close to them. I realized they looked sort of like doves, and clearly they couldn't fly (flapped their wings like crazy and scrambled to hide among the lupines).

We came to peacefully coexist as I deadheaded and kept my distance. Then the parents returned to feed them. For some reason it brought tears to my eyes. The parents landed on the bird bath and started cooing and bravely walked past me (about 3 feet away) and found the one baby in the lupines. There was some fluttering as the parent fed the baby. So cute. I'm glad I apparently don't really frighten them as long as I keep some respectful distance. Ah, the joys of gardening!
