New Member w/ Big HAVE List

Greetings! This looks like my kind of place. I'd love to exchange if anyone is interested. I am located in northeast Florida in the beautiful city of Palm Coast. My soil is sandy and the climate is humid year round. We have a few frosts, but nothing calamitous. We don't have an irrigation system...believe in xeriscaping...and hope to one day have our front lawn replaced with waterwise groundcovers.

WHAT I HAVE:

~Tons of chenille plant seeds

~Lots of dune sunflower seeds (I can also send cuttings-they root easily in sandy soil)

~Several nandina plants, about a foot tall

~Small agave, variegated, leaves curly when mature

~Cuttings from Christmas cactus: colors are reddish fushchia, salmon, or pinkish white

~Cuttings from white orchid cactus (the real name is Epiphyllum or Queen of the Night or Night Blooming Cereus)

~Aloe vera (yellow flower stalks)

~Aloe maculata (Florida aloe with orange flower stalks)

~One baby jade tree

~A few baby Celebrity tomato plants

~Babies from my bromeliad (A hardy green with purple coloring depending on how much sun it gets--the bloom is not a stalk but rather a nest of tiny light purple flowers within the plant)

WHAT I WANT:

~Lady slipper orchids of any type, any stage of growth

~A tomatillo plant or seeds

~Any agave besides the ones I have--try me

~Any aloe besides the ones I have--try me

~Any passionflower plant

~Any snakeplant babies you want to get rid of

~Any amaryllis bulbs you want to get rid of

~Cuttings or plants of Christmas cactus in colors I don't have

~A blueberry and/or raspberry bush

~A peach tree

Forgive me if my names and descriptions are not very scientific. Since I am new I will gladly send my end first. I have great feedback on eBay and Makeup Alley.

Too bad you are not down here in the Southeast where we have lots of regulars and do our plant swaps twice a year.

Aren't there Tropical Lady Slippers? I recently attended a seminar on Tropical Lady Slippers, at my local Orchid Society. I am not sure how well they grow here, but I know there are many, many varieties of Lady Slipper Orchids. I have 2 that seem to be doing okay but have not bloomed yet, but I have not had them very long.

I am not sure which orchids are referred to as Tropical Lady Slippers
Most commonly, Cypripediums are known as Lady Slippers, and they will not grow in Florida
If you mean Paphs (Paphiopedilums) or Phrags...then yes, you can grow them here. I guess, it is a matter of what one means by Lady Slipper ( too general of a term! )

I meant paph orchids :-) I thought I had finally found one that would rebloom for me, and it was a paph, after years of just not having the touch with orchids in general. But I noticed the other day the little bud that I was so excited about has shriveled and faded before it even bloomed! So now I'm back to NO MORE orchids for me at all, it's too frustrating.

So if anyone wants my barely used bottle of Terracycle Orchid food, I'll gladly swap it for something!!!

I was also thinking of Phaphs, you are right, too broad of a term. Sorry about that!

And I have seen pictures of your orchids, they are awesome, mine are not even in the same league. Just joined our local orchid society and am enjoying it.

Before you know it, you will be growing gorgeous orchids! Especially in zone 10 - great climate for vandas and cattleyas!

Fellow ocean xeriscaper! Don't know how close you are to the ocean, but wind and salt could make a difference in where you locate orchids....salty wind will kill blooms

I have Iron Plants, aka snake plants I believe - tubors, mine are 3'tall, have some babies if you want them.
Have similar to your bromiliad babies but bloom is a stalk if you want those. Also was given very pretty "whatever" large tubor root, grows fast, leaves look like spinach with rose colored flowers. Very hardy in the beachscape if you would like to try I have 2 babies.

Can use the dune sunflower cuttings, chenille cuttings if you have them, otherwise seeds would be fine.

Can we do this exchange by mail? UPS? I am new to web exchange.
