SWAP: Spring 2009 Swap-A-Que - swap and food list

fawnridge (Ricky)

Since the Jerk Chicken went over so well last year, I'm going to do it again as well as the now famous Boca Boys Pulled Pork.

I have 2 Copperpods - Peltophorum pterocarpum - that right now are about 6" tall, but they're in 3-gallon cans so they've got time and room to grow. I wouldn't trying growing these in zone 9. I also have two 1-gallon Pink Pride of Barbados seedlings. Other than that, it looks like there's going to be late start, if at all, on my mistbed this year due to the prolonged cold season.

As always, I have room for Ferns and Bromeliads in the garden. Hope to see you all there!

I can only take anything that is deer-proof, as everything else basically disappears from my garden. That's a pretty short list, but here are some I could use more of: Monkshood (any variety) Trillium Ferns (especially varieties other than Christmas fern, which I have lots of) Bleeding Heart Astilbe Iris (especially any named or unusual varieties) Columbine Lavender Perennial salvia Heuchera Virginia bluebells Echinacea Foxgloves (digitalis) Pulmonaria Anything else that's deer-resistant and shade-tolerant Also, my vegetable garden is fenced off, so I might be interested in some veggie plants.

    ginny,

You got it. I'll bring several. I've got them filling in a large built-in planter in front of the house and now that it's finally raining, they're going great guns.

And Kristi, I've got one of those weeping crotons rooted for you. The first one I rooted two years ago is now four feet tall! Of course, one right next to it is only two feet tall. I can't explain that.

    Keiki,

I have one sapodilla promised to Ladygreensleeves. I just went out and found another small one. It's only about five inches high. I'll dig it for you this afternoon to make sure the puppy doesn't trample it.

And my porterweed isn't what I'd call low growing, unless there's a really high growing variety. You're welcome to some babies, but mine gets about three feet high. Let me know if you want me to dig up a baby. I'm just concerned it's not what you're looking for.

Re. rain lilies and/or gloriosas, I'll take however many of each you want to trade.

And Ginny, saw your note re. seminole pumpkin seeds. I'll definitely bring you some, along with the firespike. But I don't have cuphea. I'm sorry, wish I did. But I'll be happy with any broms and/or the yellow shrimp plant you have to trade.

    Other stuff I still have:
calamondin trees (small, less than a foot high.)
    two small joseph's coat plants
two small pencil cactus cuttings, already rooted
a tiny, tiny, tiny but rooted lifesaver plant
necklace pod (I've got volunteers growing too close to the house, three or four good sized plants I'll dig right before I head up.)
A small dwarf ponciana (Pride of Barbados) It's from this season, so it's little, but they grow fast into lovely trees or shrubs.

I can also bring cuttings, if anyone is interested in the following:
a weeping croton, I think it's Thanksgiving, roots really easily (I have one rooted for coffeemom)
a variety of muranta that blooms prolifically
chenille plant (also roots easily, I just didn't get to it this time)

And anyone want century plant or unnamed jasmine babies? I have both, but they're so common, I won't bother to bring them unless someone doesn't have them and wants one.

I also may have a few queens wreath seeds, and I'll definitely bring up some dwarf ponc seeds. And anyone else want seminole pumpkin seeds? I've got plenty.

Ginny is the amaryllis spoken for?

Sillibugs, I could use some 6 in pots for my brom babies. Want to swap plants or garden stuff?

Regina you had me lol. The waterlily is in the back container because my pond is very small but my dreams of plants were very.....grand? The black EE is trying to escape, the ferns multiply daily and the cannas fall over everytime there's a hint of wind.(not in pic)
What size is your pond? I'm asking because if it's big, the fern and the snowflake might be considered invasive, but I have more EE's.

Here is a link that might be useful: my pond

Cliff - You won't need hot sauce with the jerk chicken, trust me, but we do have some wonderful stuff you can try. And that's a great idea for the educational session right after lunch.

Everyone - bring bromos, orchids, and tillandsia, driftwood pieces or large sections of tree bark if you have them. I'll see if I can find a few small pieces as well and I'll show you all how to mount stuff - both on the driftwood and on trees in the garden.

coffeemom, my pond is 8x10x3 at the deepest end. I have illusions of grandeur myself....lol. I have another pre-formed pond at the front of the house. I put that one in myself about 3 years ago as well.
I had a 4x6 pond at a previous house and had a sensitive fern, is this the same as yours? Canna's,waterlily, I'm familiar with as well but havent seen a black EE yet.The snowflake I'm not sure of or familiar with.
What am I bringing you in exchange?

Keiki, I would be interested in your waterlily colorado. Thank-you. What can I bring you?
