good small fig for nj?

I have a great new spot in the front yard that's ready to be planted. I cleared several overgrown evergreens and put in one tree hydrangea. I planned to put in one more tree hydrangea & a Japanese Maple between them, they do well here in our acidic soil. I just read Micheal Pollon's new book "In Defense of Food" & he suggested planting fruit trees that can feed you so now I am thinking of a fig. But it MUST be pretty and it can't be too big or too fast-growing. Any suggestions?
