Marseillies VS variant is very good & most were picked last week. I probably have another 2 more MVS to pick & I am quite sure the others remaining on the tree won't ripen on time. MVS would definetly go in-ground next spring. Today was a good day, we picked quite a few figs, shared with neighbours & friends and still have more than 30 for ourselves. I am looking forward to my Stella & Excel to see how good they are. Most of today's pick came from Tony's Greek, Vicenzo, Negronne & Slocan(maybe Longue D'Aout). I hope to pick more Vicenzo as the tree is laden with figs.

I have seen the following figs being sold in NJ-- black Mission kadota Hardy chicago Celeste Texas ever bearing Petite negri As for the pomegranate, I bet it would survive for you. I am going to start raing some from see this year. But keep in mind the climate of most of China is VERY different from here on the East Coast. Almost all the rainfall in China falls in the summer monsoon and the subarctic cold in the North is extremely arid (unlike our cold and wet winters). I don't know if this matters for the pomegranate but would suggest you do what it takes to improve drainage (try a raised bed, add sand, etc.). Good luck!

Previously, I always had my figs in large containers--those industrial sized, plastic containers. I would get a few figs but nothing special. I never really gave them a decent try in the ground for lack of space. I recently moved though and had a decent-sized area for the figs (near a property fence). I planted them (Brown Turkey variety) last Spring so it's only been a little over a year in their new home. I am thrilled with their progress! The figs get full sun most of the day (except late afternoon when the fence blocks it). They are growing robustly and are covered with figs. Even though we've had little rainfall recently, the ground seems moist and I will hose them down occasionally. Feed occasionally with a 5-10-5 Miracle Grow fertilizer.(In containers, they always used to have wilting leaves during the heat of the day). Figs probably started forming back in June. There was not really any die back (but I am not really inclined to protect). I also have a Petite Negronne but it doesn't seem nearly as vigorous a plant so far. Good luck!

It really depends on things like how much insulation there is, as well as ventilation, sun exposure, what materials...You don't want it to get warm in there, tomorrow is supposed to be 75 here and I uncovered most trees this pas weekend already. A light freeze ~25 F will not hurt a dormant tree, and you can always throw a tarp over it for the night if it wakes up early or there are unseasonably cold temperatures.
