WANTED: Purple and Green potato vines

I used to toss out dozens of 'taters every year, but for some reason, mine all mysteriously died this year. They didn't grow this summer, and when I went to dig them up, they were mush.

Anyway, I'd like a local trade, anywhere in the North Port or surrounding area. I have too many things to list, and you can come to my house and pick what you want. If you want to wait until they come up in the spring, I'll wait.

Just a few things I have are:

Peanut Butter Bush seedlings

Cuttings of Ecuador Pink brug

Giant Tithonia (Sunflower Tree)(small plants)

Orange Amaryllis bulbs

Hibiscus Acetosella (seedlings)

Hibiscus Radiatus (seedlings, seeds, or cuttings)

Lots of different Philodendrons (don't know all their names, but they're growing up my trees)

Anyway, I'd love to have you over one day to get some stuff and bring me some taters!

I don't know if this would help, but I got potatoes from the health food store and when they started to sprout, I cut off the sprouting pieces and put them in my garden. They are growing plants that look alot like tomatoes. I haven't dug them up yet but I did poke around and found some small potatoes on one.

These are not vines though. Now sweet potatoes I have are vines.

I have these vines growing in excess in a pot on my patio. Would love to pick up cuttings of brugmansia. Where are you located? I'm in Lake Mary area.

Perrie, Could you share the botanical name of this? Several different types of plants go by the common name of Purple Pea Vine. If it's Clitorea ternatea you're after, I can help. Or perhaps you're really looking for Hyacinth Bean, Dolichos lablab? Or some type of Sweet Pea, Lathyrus sp.? Let us know so we can get you the correct plant and put a smile on your face.

I just came across this post and thought I would add my two cents about sweet potatoes. The first chartreuse sweet potato vine I bought produced many plants for many years. The first year, I just washed the tuber, dried it, and kept it in a bag of sawdust over winter. The next year more tubers were produced and I did that for a while. Then I discovered that if you pot up the tuber, you can bring it indoors, withhold water and the leaves will dry through the winter. In spring, simply water and bring into a lighted window and it will grow again. I treat all my tender bulbs/tubers that way - dahlias, begonias, tube roses, oxalis, cannas, tropical Amaryllis, Mirabilis - and it saves a lot of work. The sweet potato has several growth points, but not as many as the regular potato, and they are not as easy to determine. I buy my potato, store it in the dark in a brown paper bag, and it will produce spouts (like a carrot). I then cut that part of the potato out and pot them up and place in a sunny window. They do very well. These are not the chartreuse-coloured vines, but they do make nice vines for pots. In the tropics, they are several varieties of sweet potatoes, but we only get a few. The one that produces the chartreuse leaves has true pink, thin skin, and is white-fleshed. You may be able to find it in a tropical market, but your best bet it to buy one and root cuttings and save the tubers. The taro tuber is another nice one, as Bonniepunch stated. They need lots of water, and tolerate shade.
