Comments (2)I've been really happy with Sarcococcas humilus on a site similar to description. A bit slow to spread to total coverage, but a nice low evergreen that has good weed blocking coverage. Another for such a site though not evergreen is Epimedium XFrohenleiten. Lovely dense leaf coverage about 8-10 inch and golden flowers in spring. Seems to like 4-5 hours morning sun but an also stand medium shade all day, and forms a dense root mass that holds back vitrually ever weed around here except garlic grass(Allium Sp,?)....See MoreZone 10a walkable ground cover: sun and partial shade
Comments (5)one variable will be how much heat the pavers collect and retain deep onto the night ... night is usually a cool recovery period for the onslaught of the day ... in the pic directly above.. the plant is easily 60 to 75% dominant.. compared to the stone.. so it thrives with ease ... if you use large blocks.. with just tiny plant material in the cracks.. you MIGHT have a hard time maintaining proper moisture.. during the heat of the day ... so when you say: " but the idea is to have the pavers as a more solid walkway between the also-walkable ground over. " ... then note this is the variable you will be dealing with ... if you find the proper plant. it should need no irrigation after it gets fully established ... which is usually after the first growing season.. subject of course to use.. if the marching band will be using the walkway.. it will need more water .. due to the heavy use ... if it were me.. and being a hard core plant COLLECTOR .... id probably try numerous plants over the length of the walkway.. and over the years figure out which is the most carefree for the situation ... the alternative.. is that you are an interior designer dabbling outside.. and want one perfect plant.. and sometimes those are hard to find ... since most of the variables particular to your installation are not common to anyone who answers .... but are limited to your garden .... good luck ken...See MoreExperience with partial shade with following varieties...
Comments (15)It's hard to say if it was the shade or being moved last year - my 3 year old Eden didn't have a single bloom . It's the only spot I have to put a wild hearted thorny rose. After I beg my neighbor to move her giant flag that hangs like a curtain over my flower bed, God willing maybe there will be a change. Earth Angel crisps a bit ; the beautiful pale petals turn brown easily, but she definitely likes light. If you can keep her out of intense sun she would do best for you. Mine is in the worst North location. EA sent out a long cane that stretched around the corner of the house in search of sunlight from the East. At the very end of the cane was a bouquet of heavenly roses ! Other than that, all Summer there were only a couple of blooms near the base where there was very little sunlight....See MoreRelated Professionals
