Just installed new DLG7188WM today! My 6 year old 'Estate' dryer was supposed to have a 'shelf life' of 10-12 before repair or death...5.5 years into it - gas coil problems. Called repair ($80 just to find my address...of course would be credited to repair IF we decide his dx is correct and use him) and without even taking machine apart said, "Yup, gas coil blew. Gonna need a replacement." $175 (plus the 4 twenties he already pocketed) was the verdict. Machine cost us $500 - delivered, installed & old one hauled! A major repair at least 5 years sooner than originally rated seemed like throwing good money after bad. Tons of research later...we stumbled upon NINOSTRADING.COM (hope that doesn't make them raise their prices, may need a washer soon!) where they specialize in factory direct 'Dings & Dents.' Paid $340 for $1,200 dryer + $170 for cross country shipping. Husband installed in under one hour. $520 for top rated and full featured, 1-year factory warranteed, brand new machine? Easy choice. So far, so good...very thankful for this site and these threads to share tips. Still have old washer, so I will make sure to use HIGH SPIN to remove as much water possible before using new LG dryer. CAVEAT EMPTOR: This is NO FRILLS, AS-IS, and as available type of site. Excellent, courteous and prompt - but cannot be picky about appearance or minor 'fixes' you must make. Order by 'pallet number' and they state general appearance. 72 hour return. Not for the weak (or picky) hearted...but who can't use a little extra mortgage cash these days?!

I happened to find this thread searching for answers to my own LG problem. The old "get what you pay for" adage doesn't seem to apply to LG and I will NEVER buy another LG product again. (was considering their french door refrigerator - since like the washer, was also rated #1by Consumer Reports - with matching stoves and oven but not now!) I purchased the LG Tromm WM2688HWM washer with matching dryer and after only 5 years - 1 week after my extended warranty expired - the washer has gone out and LG refuses to help - considers the unit "too aged." Really!? AGED after just 5 years!? Considering both my cheap $300-400 washers were repair free for min of 10 and up to 20 years, I expected that paying nearly 4 times the money would get me something repair free for a long time. Instead, in just half the time, I am left with a costly repair (nearly as much as the cost of buying a less expensive machine when I called around for prices!) or needing to buy a new machine. And the other thing that really blows my mind is I live in Los Angeles (probably one of their biggest markets) and the closest service provider is over an hour away and part of the reason why a service call would be so expensive. LG's attitude didn't help. What ever happened to any of your cases? Anything good or helpful to share?

@Larsi - I would love to try the miele Ultra white powder as both you and mamap are liking it a lot. I would happily do an exchange with you -- I have some vintage Tide (aged like good wine at least 5 years!!). As for Somat tabs, those are my absolute fave and I also love their rinse aid. Haven't tried the Somat 10 so I would say yes to 2 of them -- but no more. Because we are on a septic I am mostly using half Methods with the occasional Quantum power ball (which does a great job) for heavy loads. My septic is new -- we watched them dig up the old 2000 pound tank from the giant pit my backyard became. Then they lowered in the new one and I was dizzy I was so nervous that the thing would fall off the crane and there goes the plumbing forever. But it was OK. EXACTLY! After throwing a fit, I finally got my appliances ordered last May on October 18. They substituted a SHarpe microwave because the LG is now on back order at Lowes! (the microwave IS available thru LG website however) And they substituted another model for my LG Range. It was a slightly more expensive model, so we didn't gripe, but it came with no racks, no installation package, no warranty info, no user manual, no air fry tray, no built in thermomter. I spent hours talking to LG AND to Lowes. Finally had to order the installation package myself at $71 and Lowe's is supposed to give me a gift card for that amount. Lowe's optional solution was to order a completely new range (which is out of stock now and not expected til after the new year). They OBVIOUSLY robbed Peter to pay Paul. During this whole process, I have spent 2 hours with my Lowe's designer selecting appliances that were "in stock" and endless hours on the phone reporting delivery damages, missing appliances, and trying to rectify errors.
