How are you looking? I'm in that red circle in the lower right corner of WI. What a brutal summer.

It has gotten dry here again. Hot windy day yesterday sure didn't help. Up at my land, 60 miles north, it too is on the dry side now. Nothing extreme but that area could use a good soaking. Nothing significant on the way though.

No secret where I am. Red dot in center of nation.

So far today 1.30 inches of rain from Isaac. Back to 97 F. Monday. I don't think we are out of this entrenched hot dry spell yet.

If I were you whaas I would give everyone of those 1st year plantings a real good drink of water before putting them to bed this winter.

We got 0.2" and that is it at my house. The unfortunate thing is that it came with electrical storms that started more fires and that amount of rain is the equivalent of nothing. Our monsoon season normally starts in July and we are in desperate need of a strong one as we are in year 3 of a D4 level drought. The upside is that my weeding chores have been pretty nonexistent.

DrKnow... Thanks for responding. I'm not sure the strawberry plants were big enough to be consuming very much. But yesterday the tubs were showing less difference in ppm, although still large, running from 750ppm to 1150ppm. From that has to be subtracted the 230ppm of the tap water, which makes the difference larger, percentage-wise. Today I drained the nutrient solution, cleaned the tubs, and switched to the two part nutrient from American Hydroponics. There's much less difference from tub to tub. I don't know what effect heat has on solubility--at least not moderate heat. The highest recorded solution temperature was 84 degrees F. Some of that heat comes from the air pump. Strawberries don't seem to be bothered. At least, not so far. I'll be communicating with American Hydroponics because there was some hard precipitate stuck to the bottom of one of the mixing buckets. I think that's normal, but I want to be sure.

Good one. I didn't look at this before. "Then we're not fully hardy either. Maybe those of us who enjoy "exotics" are demonstrating our shared African origins more than those who only plant things like arborvitaes and hardy hybrid rhododendrons" Are you insinuating that I think like an Australopithecine? Homo erectus? I would say Neandertal, but we all know he is not a common ancestor!LOL. What you don't know is how good I am at cave drawings! "Quite an improvement. Good time to think about doing some serious watering" Good to know. My yard is like sand. If I am home so I can water, it becomes expensive with the sprinkler system and all. I usually just let the lawn turn brown every summer, but I still need to water the plants. Take care. -Brian

Lisa, The lack of rainfall calls for desperate measures. Next time rain is forecast, in order to "bring it on", may I suggest the following: wash your car and leave it sitting in the driveway, wash the exterior side of all your house's windows, paint your house trim, or schedule an outdoor party/cookout. Or, wash your fire engine (just kidding, I know you don't have a fire engine) and leave it parked outside the station as you decorate it and prepare to participate in a parade in town. That makes it rain every time. I'm sorry to hear that the rain keeps missing you. I know what a frustrating experience that is. I'm so grateful we finally got rain, but I have not forgotten the hot, dry, miserable 39 days prior to that when we couldn't get rain to fall on us no matter what. As Jay always says, every day that rain doesn't fall just brings you one day closer to the day when you finally will get rain. Dawn

Just reading that sounds refreshing!

Its official, our area had the warmest meteorological summer (6/1 - 8/31) in over 100 years of record keeping.

I can't wait for the leaves to drop and the snow to roll in.

Hang in there. I'm sure things will improve much better over the next few months just as I went through terrible drought in Texas last year then all of sudden rain started to roll in during fall/winter.
