Oh dear, which one is prettiest here? Maybe Brazen Bandit, but My heart Belongs to Daddy is so pretty. And Citrix is stunning. Hum, maybe Black Fathom Depths is my favorite. Maybe. I don't think I've seen this one before. You have some I'm really liking this year. But then, nothing new in that, I ALWAYS like daylilies!

By the way, did you take Brazen's picture upside down, or maybe it is easier to read the tag that way :)

Thanks everyone. digdig, you make a good point about spreading out the fall color. Many trees just go brown and that's it, but some, like liquidamber and birches have lovely fall color. Rico, sounds like it worked really well for you, congrats! Any chance you can post a photo? (I'm very visually oriented.) The terrain goes over a gentle hill lengthwise ( middle 50 feet), with dry, somewhat rocky soil in the middle, and good loam on either side. That alone will force different planting so I have happy trees on that dry bit. The other side will only be seen if you walk around it. It's not visible from the road or from the neighbors. There are no overhead wires. There are underground utilities that cut across one section. I plant to just plant across it. If they ever need to be dug up, fine. My understanding is that most tree and shrubs roots do not go deep and will not interfere with them 4 feet down. Alyrics, you bring up a good point that I have been debating. Should I just plant some trees and mulch around them 4 feet and do crazy mowing between all of them? Or should I try to do a complete kill of all the grass with roundup and mulch heavily with wood chips? I'm leaning towards the former because it's easier. Although in reality it will probably be weedy for years. Right now I have a small hill of woodchips that I got from the highway cleanup crews after our October surprise snowstorm last year. (2 large dumptrucks full) I'm usually able to get woodchips around here pretty cheaply, so the cost of the mulch won't be an issue, it's more the labor of placing them. Groundcover is out, that is definitely too much work. Any thoughts on the mulch versus mowing versus weeds? Thanks for all your input.

You know I've asked aout Charmed Existence before....and you know I love that one...but THIS photo just took the love to a different level. WOW!!!! That photo has me speechless. Gorgeous, gorgeous Charmed Existence, you are killing me! I also think Frozen Margarita is my kind of daylily. I love that form it has and the color, and well...everything about it! It looks very impressive in a clump. The others are ravishing too. I hope your photos never end. (of course they will eventually, but I don't want that). They are wonderful. Celeste

Thanks for the tip about planting two similar looking ones next to each other. I have wondered what I would do if I lost a tag. Julie- I have had Purple Coneflowers around the garden for years. They do seed in the oddest places sometimes but its not a big deal to pull them up move them if its not what I want. I don't dead head as first they attract butterflies with the flowers and then as soon as the Purple Coneflowers set seed, the Goldfinches come and eat on them. The garden here is very much for attracting backyard songbirds, butterflies, hummingbirds and bees. In fact right in back of the daylily plateu in the backyard is another smaller shelf in which I plant sunflowers. Each end of that little tier has a butterfly bush and then sunflowers in the middle going along in a row. I started the sunflowers there last year after I had those garden beds made as I figgured I needed to do something there but it worked out so well that its been picked as the plant sunflowers here spot forever. The goldfinches sure do love to come and eat the sunflowers,even before the seeds are fully ripe. In the picture of GRACE LIKE RAIN that I had above the daisey like things are cosmos and the yellow buds and closed flowers are 4 O'Clocks. They might look funny as the flowers open late in the day and this picture was taken too early for them to be open.

ngraham..the tag is a little loose and has gone completely over...have to get a pliers and squeeze a little to tighten it up. Always something else to do in a garden.

Beautiful pics, Kay! Are you sure that is My Heart Belongs to Daddy? It looks a lot like Malaysian Marketplace. My favorite in this group is Black Fathom Depths.

Wow, these are fantastic, each one better than the ones before. Or maybe I just can't choose. I know I love Critix. And that Black Fathom Depths, just wow. Such fabulous color. I think you posted Malaysian Marketplace instead of My Heart Belongs To Daddy but they are both gorgous.

Rita, Do you think DH would notice if I planted a row alongside the rose garden extension? It may happen. And he'll notice and gripe for a little while, but I am pretty sure that is in the near future. I am needing to move a few that are not in a good place, so that is what would happen.
