Dog next door chewed a cutting!
Comments (8)Ok guys. Thanks. I stopped in for a short break as I'm digging up the nicer brugs (after lopping them like ruth ann does), and I keep looking through the rickety fence behind me to see if I can see the puppy doggy. Ok, I won't freak any more. Man, the wind is kicking up here like a storm is coming in. I'm swinging these monstrous choppings, laying them down and cut-cut-cut-cut all the way to the Y, and I'm getting blown around! Ok, found mountain magic (poor thing). Only 3 feet tall in the blizzard of Pink Beauty. Looks like Guineverre is the one that croaked, and Angel's Moonlight is annoying. I dug it up but threw the top away. Too thin and small to give to anyone. Wretched Mess was a disappointment. But I've got some WONDERFUL Sun Goddess cuttings. Now that turned out to be areally nice plant, robust and flowering. (Went around my garage and dropped the loppers when I saw it.) Got those on sale and they turned out to be a real surprise. Consider they were covered with blooms as I chopped them down. And they were IGNORED. Both water AND food. A definate must for the newbie and the forgetful. (grin) Thanks guys for helping me through that panic. Appreciate it. I have been a basket case this afternoon....See MoreWhat are the safest dental chews or bones for dogs?
Comments (24)I have a new 1 year old GSP. He can destroy a tennis ball (reinforced Tuff Ball for dogs) in 9 seconds - yes, I timed him. My latest experiences into the world of chew toys: I don't give things like bully sticks, pig ears, Greenies, rawhides etc. the foster dogs tend to like them too much and either gulp or guard - both are things I don't encourage. Nylabones - None of my dogs have ever liked the classic hard nylabones. They are extremly hard plastic and he won't even use them as a throw toy. Softer versions such as gumabones last less than 10 minutes. Nylabone dental chews last 20 minutes. Kong - Classic Kongs are good. I have both red and black (exteme) versions in Xl and King sizes and have not had a dog destroy them. The dental stick and dental jack are worthless - both broke into large pieces within minutes and they are only available in red. Kong treat balls (stuff-a-ball) were also quickly destroyed. The biscuit ball lasts longer, but still wasn't suitable. Air Kongs are glorified tennis balls and met the same fate as their cheaper brethren. Kong balls are nice and the dogs seem to especially enjoy the bounzer ball. Kongs supposedly have a replacement guarantee, but I wasn't particularly impressed with Kong's customer service after contacting them about the dental stix. Puptreads are made from recycled tires and have the advantage of being available at Walmart, etc. Vigorous chewing did rough them up, but only small rice-sized pieces are missing. Chuck-It Ultra balls last much longer than any other ball except Kong balls. The advantage of the Ultra balls is that they bounce better and are great for indoors as they are light. I've heard that raquetballs are similiar, but don't have personal experience. Rope toys are no longer an option as he untied the knots and shredded the strands within minutes. I just bought goughnuts to try and after a week, they are still whole. They're a little heavy for indoor play, but the dogs enjoy carrying them and chewing. So far I'm impressed. They do come with a replacement guarantee and, should the need arise, I hope I'll have a better experience with them than i did with Kong. Here is a link that might be useful: goughnuts...See MoreDog Keeps Chewing Moss Out of Artificial Fig Tree
Comments (19)Ditto Bitter Apple or something else foul-tasting or -smelling... to the dog, that is! There are also dog repellent products for use indoors (make sure you read the label). All usually need to be reapplied fairly frequently. I can tell you by unpleasant experience that you should wear rubber gloves when applying Bitter Apple or suchlike products, because you CANNOT get that taste out of your mouth for hours! If you like the smell of citronella, most dogs do not and you can pick up a small bottle of citronella essential oil at a health food store and put several drops around the bottom of the plant. Some people recommend cayenne pepper as a dog repellent but if it gets into the dog's eyes that can be a big problem. I've met more than a few dogs who will cheerfully eat rocks, so if you decide to use rocks make sure they are too big for the dog to get in his mouth and ideally too heavy for him to lug around the house. If he'll chew rocks (I know one Lab who will), don't use rocks - broken teeth are painful and expensive! There're also the mechanical tricks like the Tattle Tale alarm and inverted mousetraps under pieces of paper (there are also modified versions that make the snapping noise but don't actually have anything to catch a nose in - those are available in most pet supply stores)....See MoreDog chewed bark off my dogwood
Comments (9)Thanks for the info and the comments everyone! So far the tree looks ok. Weather has been good here in central Indiana...good amount of rain and not too hot. Dog's name is Winston. He's a golden doodle (kind of) mom was a standard poodle, and dad was a golden doodle. He likes to chew on sticks...I'm now trying to teach him that the large vertical sticks with leaves on top are off limits!...See Moregreendesert
