I just love the shots of the garden and yours is so very pretty. I have butterfly and hummingbird plants here too although I don't have a separate area for them the way that you do. It really does seem to work well for you. Plus you have so much more room than I do so can afford to show off the garden beds with the lovely areas of lawn. And of course, those daylily shots are great :-))

It seems that all of us here have been doing lots of work on our gardens lately.

Your new garden area is looking really nice Jan. I like the way the mulched pathway leading back on into the planted area just seems to beg you to take a stroll on through. Please post some pics of that as bloom season progresses.

I love the new bed! Do you have the black and blue salvia in it? That is the top hummer attraction in my garden, and I think the purple gomphrena is the top butterfly although the herbs are well liked too.

I really like that Strawberry Masquerade. I am partial to reds and pinks.

Ohhhhh Jan. What lovely pictures to see after a 13 hour day in the garden. Keeps me energized for another full day tomorrow. Love your raised rock bed there with the yellow flowers and wooden arbor.

I would second Kays rec of black and blue salvia. Butterflies love it. Just know that it likes to spread itself around... but easy to pull if it gets somewhere you don't want it. For my garden the #1 butterfly magnet is Henry Garnet Itea. I have had literally, 50 butterflies at a time on those bushes. I could even get right up on them and take pictures, they were that attracted to the flowers.

Rita...I guess it's the time of year when every gardener wants to be doing something outside, and if most of you are like me, you get some great ideas from the garden shots that everyone posts.
The dl bed on the end is all candy dl's from Stamile. I can't wait till they begin to bloom. I added Special, Sherry, Precious, Licorice, Rock and a couple of older ones to it this year.
Thanks to all of you, I'm glad you enjoy my photos and I love sharing my garden with you. I wish we all lived close enough to visit each others gardens. I love having garden visitors. :)

Oops, FSG...guess I was typing when you posted. Anyway, my daughter has HG Itea and has potted some up for me. I'll be adding it to my garden, possibly somewhere in the butterfly area real soon. Thanks for the suggestions folks.
Sharon, SBA is one of the many "angel" themed dls in my Mom's Memorial Bed. I love it too. :)

The new garden is spectacular, Jan. I love the mulch between the pavers. I tried to do something similar a few years ago with pea gravel between rocks, but the mutant thistles here grew through weed barrier fabric and the pea gravel and it became too much to take care of, so I'm getting rid of that bed. Did you put anything beneath the mulch?

The daylilies are beautiful, and you have a few I've been lusting after: CHARNWOOD, ORIENTAL SPICEBOX and RICTER. Where did you find the Munsons?

I'm not one who likes doubles very much, but your Scotch Sour blooms are perfectly shaped, and gorgeous.

Chris...I found Charnwood at Moon's Farm and OSB came from Cheryl Trejo (Ctinok) on the LA. I also got Ricter on the LA from Cindy Fleming (Packrat). She sent a huge clump of it. I do not have anything beneath the mulch, but that area was already a bed and didn't have grass in it. I've got the mulch really thick, 5 inches or so and if I find anything beginning to grow, it'll be easily pulled out. I'll keep adding mulch as needed to deter any weed growth.

Well Jan, lovely new garden, but you've made me curious ...where does that path lead? Does it end under the lantern and did you put a bench there to sit on so you can watch the butterflies? Does it continue on around the bend and follow the fence line? Does it curve back and come up under the arbor? You're going to have to post more pics so I can see!

Pretty daylilies, but the SCOTCH SOUR clump is my favorite. Every bloom looks perfectly formed...like roses! Thanks for sharing -

LOL Kathy....actually that path is only there for access into the bed since it's so large. The grass path in front of the bed continues around the stacked rock bed and across a bridge over a stream above my large pond.
Those are red knockout roses back in the corner with the birdhouse in front of them. There are also climbing roses all over the back fence and starting down the side now too. There are more dl's planted in a bed directly in front of the knockouts. I don't have a bench there because there is no shade and it would be kind of hot to sit there and watch the butterflies, but if you look at the first photo, there is a shady area (out of sight), to the left of the birdbath and dl bed with a small terrace and a bench to sit and watch the new area. :) I promise to do more garden shots once the dl's are blooming nicely.

Looking good, Jan! the new bed is in scale with the property and quite aesthetically pleasing. A warning about itea - it suckers pretty badly for me. I finally got some suckers out of a bed where I also have daylilies and I had to removed part of one daylily because the sucker had run underneath it and come up a foot in front of it. I love itea and don't want to be without it, but do a little research so that you are well informed. I recommend lantana for butterflies. It is a literal butterfly magnet.

Please be sure and post pictures when things start filling in and blooming well. It is going to be awesome.

Ahhh...I think I see ... the pathway is actually the grassy area that goes around the bed and the mulched walkway divides the new bed and leads to the birdhouse (that I thought was a lantern). I'll be looking forward to more of your garden shots. And I'll second Ann's recommendation of lantana to draw butterflies. I've had 4 different colors, but they especially seem to like the golden yellow.

Kathy, here's that corner with the red Knockouts from another angle. You can see the dl's in front of the Knockouts. The rose on the fence behind the Knockouts wasn't blooming in this shot, but is beginning to bloom now.

Oh that's pretty, Jan! What a great corner you've made at the end of the path. Love that climbing rose - it's huge... nice backdrop for your knockout roses. Is that a red hot poker in front of the climber? Mine bloomed this year and I was bummed because it was all yellow. I thought it was the red variety. Maybe I'll like it more next year.

Well, thanks Kathy. :) Yes, that is a Red Hot Poker, which now has 4 blooms on it. It was given to me and this is only the 2nd year it has bloomed. Last year it only had 1 bloom.
You should see the roses on the fence today. They are covered with tiny pink blooms. So pretty behind the Knockouts.
And a few of the dl's in that corner bed are blooming today too.

I love your roses Jan! Lantana is very invasive for me...the only thing worse is passion vine or trumpet vine. I've been trying to get rid of the residue of one lantana for 4 years. I always think it's gone, and WHAM! It's back. Totally love the roses.

WOW.I love the new bed with that path up through it.Love them daylilies, too,especially FORBIDDEN DREAMS and SCOTCH SOUR.Are your Knock Out roses the singles oR the Doubles? I had lots of things planned I was going to try and do this spring in the yard, starting with the rose bed,that I was tryng to pull the dead rose bush out of it.Now, Don't know how much I will be able to do. Plan to replace the dead roses with DL's I have in pots at the present.

Jean, those are the single Knockouts, but I sure do want some of the double ones. I'd love to have the pink and the yellow. Hopefully I'll find them locally and make a place for them in my garden. If they perform as well as these that I have, I know I'll love them.
I'm so sorry that you injured your wrist. I'm sure it's very frustrating not being able to do things that you had planned in your garden. Just take care of it, and it'll heal then you can get back into your gardening.

Folks...I guess I was having a "senior moment", or maybe it's a blonde thing...but whatever it was, I incorrectly labeled the dl above that I called Strawberry Masquerade. It's really "Raspberry Masquerade" DUH!!! I knew it was one of those berry ones!!! LOL
Sorry bout that....I'll try to pay closer attention from now on.
