A Couple of Blooms Today

The unseasonably cool weather has really set the daylilies back...I tink narmal temps are back, though.

Here is Drink the Night:showing the effects of the coolweather:

Parrot Jungle looks more normal:

Hopefully there will be more soon.

Parrott Jungle looks good. I guess the daylilies decided that since its too cool, they will wait and not bloom yet LOL!

Rita, South Seas started blooming on June 5th. It has put up scape after scape since then and has always had a couple of scapes blooming. I never expected it to bloom like that, and just bought because of the color of the beautiful blooma so many on this forum were posting of it. I hope you do get rebloom. kay

Thanks all for the nice comments; Kathy, Honey Dijon does very well in the heat and high humidity.Seems to love the heat. Leslie,Yes it will lose the red tint after its open usually.I have had a few blooms last year that had just a little red left,but,it usually don't have no red or pink in it when its opened up.I find it has a nice scent too. That's the fantasia. Its also called "Strawberry" since in more sun it does get redder. So many plants are hybrids of Fantasia on the net...all look great.

Thanks so much. I loved the colors of Parrot Jungle and the fancy edges from the beginning, but Trimmer said it is more for breeding than blooming. Bill Marriot told me that it does not do well at his place, but he kept it because of how it does in other areas,

Julia we have struggles to get up and past 60. Normally it would be mid eighties here, and today is predicted to be normal. We are supposed to be about 90 for the weekend and beyond, so the dayliles should return to normal blooming.

Kay: Thank you for the temp info since if I was considering any of them, I would probably be more cautious since they have an issue with opening on cooler days. Temps here can vary too and being aware of the issue is something I appreciate to hear about for cultivars.

Do all fancy daylilies have this cold issue? I wonder because it can stay pretty cool here in the summer when our daylilies bloom. Even my ditch lilies haven't even sent scapes(right word yes? brain fart) up yet. All my fancy daylilies(all six that is:) don't even have very tall foliage yet like maybe 6" max we are having a pretty cool spring so far. If we stay pretty cool will my daylilies still bloom?

Some of the fancy patterns on the florida daylilies don't show up in a colder climate and some of the fancy ruffly thick edged daylilies get stuck in the cold. But many do well and have no problems. I am sure your daylilies will scape and bloom when the weather turns warmer.

I don't know who can give you advice on daylilies for your zone, I am not familiar with your growing conditions. If you start a new thread with your own topic more people would see it to be able to give you advice.

I'm in love with Drink The Night, really gorgeous colors. I love purples and lavenders in roses, and now also in daylilies. I just ordered Reine de Violettes and Dark Wonder, my first daylily purchases online ever.
