I've not had to deal with either one, thankfully, but the best way to deal with any invasive plant is to dig it out, roots and all. With any of the Poison Ivy, Oak, or Sumac wear old cloths that can be tossed after wards so the oil does not get on anyone. Smothering does not work well since the roots will move out until there is somplace to grow, vinegar, scalding water, or a flame just kills the top growth and will need to be repeated often to attempt to control it. Honeysuckle is anout the same, just not rash producing.

Kathy, I too love your gardens, especially the planning. Great job and I'm so glad to see all of the pictures. I have not been able to grow any Asiatic or Easter Lillies. I need to research them more. I've tried twice already. I have a lot of Amaryllis that do very well and purple and blue Irises for Louisiana gardens and beautiful Gladiolas. 17 Rose bushes are tough with our humidity, but the roses are beautiful, wish I could say that for the foliage. The get sprayed a lot, but they are definately no "knock-outs". I always learn too late! I just purchased other varieties of Daylilies and Bearded Irises from websites, and look forward to seeing them bloom. Wish me luck!!! Right now the plants are looking good, but I spent a fortune on them, and anxiously await results. De-Weading is crazy!~ But I do my best. I'm alone in the gardening projects. I also built a small brick patio and put trellises and flowers. Since I am not able to kneel down, or squat (bad knees from an accident) I had to sit down while laying the bricks on top of the pebbles and sand! I layed 3 rowes of bricks behind me and "scooted" as I grabbed and placed the bricks down. What a site to see. It took me 4 months to make a 15' patio. Then I built a small Butterfly garden, and the butterflies and Hummingbirds came, and then my 21' iris and daylily garden. All this happed in 2011. I'm worn out. Some of what I have, you have already mentioned and others that I have may be bigger than what you are looking for. Even though we are both zone 6, I am not sure if NJ winters are harder than southern IN. Here's what I have that is blooming or getting ready to, and as you can see my daylilies are done for the most part:( I purchased two CARYOPTERIS (Blue Mist Spirea 'Dark Knight') last year and they have gotten 2'Hx5'W this year. Some hard wind twisted the one in the back of this pic and it split in the middle but is still blooming. It is propped up with a little fencing. Shown with DOUBLE KNOCK-OUT ROSE. HARDY PERENNIAL SALVIA - many varieties, some bloom in spring and if cut back will bloom again like "May Knight". I have found that these do re-seed easily, but are so easy to pull out, I can be very selective about where I want them to grow and where I don't. Same with COSMOS, RUDBECKIA, BALLOON FLOWER, and GARDEN PHLOX. I also like RUSSIAN SAGE and have about six plants, but like you said, they are getting kind of rangy. I didn't know they could be cut back in June. Will try that next year. JAPANESE ANEMONE "Prince Heinrich' is new for me last year, but it made it through the winter and it's getting ready to bloom now. Lots of buds so am looking forward to seeing it. LAVENDER. I am not sure how hardy lavender would be for you. I have Hidcote and Munstead. One of them did die, but the other three came back. COREOPSIS 'Moonbeam' blooms very long and if I cut back the 'Zagreb' variety that blooms in June, I can usually get a decent rebloom. SHASTA DAISIES 'Becky' is blooming now and I keep the spent blooms cut so it will go a little longer. LIRIOPE (Lily Turf) is a nice low grassy ground cover that is starting to bloom here. I like it because it is only about 6-8" high and can be put in front of so many other plants. CRAPEMYRTLES do well here and I have six that are all blooming now. 'Pocomoke' is a nice rounded variety that is about 3x3' and I've had it about 5 years. ASTERS is the one thing that has not bloomed well for me, but it is a fall plant. I'm pretty sure that it is yellow nut sedge, a plague upon mankind. Pulling is somewhat helpful, but to get rid of it for good you will need a sedgicide; I have used Sedgehammer to good effect. It didn't affect the real grass or any plant that it got onto besides the sedge.
