Please share your best beauty tips :-)
Comments (28)My tip is to wear a light foundation, or at least an SPF moisturizer whenever you leave the house. I have friends who are identical twins and share a very similar lifestyle. Neither smoke, sunbathe, have more than the occasional drink, are highly stressed etc. Yet one of them looks almost 10 years younger than her twin and definitely hasn't had any work done. The only big difference is that the younger looking one has worn a light foundation since she was 15 to blend an uneven skin tone, and her twin has always gone barefaced. Their dermatologist confirmed that 40 years of a thin layer of foundation gave the one twin some protection from the pure sun exposure that going bare faced didn't provide. Unfortunately, he said she'd now have to use Botox, Restalyne and Collagen injections to fill out lines (that her sister doesn't have), in order to restore her skin to a similar appearance....See MoreTip.......Add Yours
Comments (39)I hung a shoe sorter on the back of my living room closet door to hold things like vacuum belts & bags, gloves, stocking caps, etc. My other closets have bifolds so I can't use them there, but I put one on my bedroom door too. Since I have shower doors, the tub area is hidden. I haven't gotten around to fixing the tile on the wall and to use the shower without damaging the walls, I put up a tension shower rod and hang a shower curtain liner on the wall. Now I can shower without damaging the walls. Plus I don't have to clean the walls! I also use the towel rack now to hang spray bottles of cleaners & the "shower spray". Tape a magnet strip inside your medicine cabinet or vanity drawer to keep things like small scissors, tweezers and other metal items handy and undamaged. I decided to start using my computer phone/address book in a couple ways. Of course the normal names/addresses in alphabetical order for people and businesses, but I also started to add in business sections, for instance, Pizza delivery, restaurants, plumbers, lawn service, attorneys, etc. I think I'll separate out and make a personal "yellow pages" etc. I also sort my flatware in the dish drainer since I don't have a dishwasher anymore (she moved out years ago). I also sort my grocery list as I'm making it. If it's just a few things I sort by Frozen/Refrigerated and non. If I need a lot I made up a form by department/area including, Deli, Canned, Dairy, H&B, Paper, Bakery, etc. I can go through the store much faster. If you have a big jumbled list you could take different colored highlighters and accomplish a similar thing. That Scott site has a LOT of great tips, although many are repeated in there so many times. Really, we don't need to be told to use toilet paper tubes for extension cords 50 times! And of course they're hyping their brand products but it's pretty easy to tell that you can use any paper towel, facial tissue or toilet paper tube. A few that caught my attention: Clean & Shiny Bathtub Before cleaning your bathtub, spray it with OVEN CLEANER. Wait a few minutes and then go back to it, spray it with water and all the dirt washes away with little or no scrubbing. You will have the whitest tub ever! Kitchen Measures I keep my measuring spoons and cups together in a basket in one of my kitchen drawers. When I go to make something or bake, I simply remove the whole basket for easy access. Hideaway Waste Baskets Put two cup hooks on the back of the lower bathroom cabinet door, and hang your plastic grocery store bags by their handles. Now you have a hidden bag to dispose of your trash. On trash day, simply remove the bag from the hooks and tie a knot in the bag to toss. Peel Potatoes Using (paper) Towels Boil potatoes with the skin on. When done, drain. Fold a (paper) Towel in half and pick up a hot potato. Gently rub the potato back and forth and the skin comes right off. Shake the potato skin off and reuse the towel. It saves time and clean up. When finished, just discard the towel or, better yet, go green and place the towel and the peelings into a compost pile for next spring's gardening. Identify Clean Dishes When you remove your clean dishes from the dishwasher, immediately put a gel pack or powder block in the detergent dispenser. That way, when you look in, you'll see that the dishes are clean if the dispenser is open or dirty when it is closed and holding the detergent!. (This will not work with liquid detergent, because it runs out onto the door.) Comment: I never quite understood NOT knowing clean dishes from dirty ones! But, that's me! OK, just a couple more: Quick Hamburger Patties Use cupcake papers between hamburger patties that you are going to freeze or stack for later use. They work as well as waxed paper, and they are the perfect size. Cling Wrap Made Better Do you hate the way cling wrap sticks to everything except where you want it? Keep the roll in the fridge, and the problem is solved! Oh, and it's always a good reminder to push in the tabs that have been on the foil, plastic wrap, and other boxes forever and many of us didn't know about them....See MoreTell me your frugal tips, please! :o)
Comments (41)I agree with Donna, make a written budget and stick to it. Allow so much for "fun" money out of it too because more than likely you're going to spend it anyway and you need to be accountable for it so you know where your money is going. I allot myself/kids $100 a pay period to just blow on whatever. So much for food, don't go over the amount so before shopping you need to write down what you plan to buy and keep a running total either with a calculator or by rounding off in your mind. I allot $200 a pay period for food and other household items like toilet paper, shampoo and other necessities. Movies, eating out comes out of the "fun" money. Up until I decided to give up sugar I was still buying an occational white chocolate mocha at Starbucks on my way to work. It came out of the fun money. It's amazing when you do a budget how much extra cash you come up with that you were just blowing. 2 1/2 years ago I was living paycheck to paycheck. I had a good paying job and so it was frustrating not having anything left after paying my bills. I decided it was time to get out of debt and started trying to pay off my debts one at a time. Then at the end of the first year I started listening to Dave Ramsey on the radio, I started doing a written budget and paid off as much in six months as I did over the whole previous year. I still have a ways to go and went off his plan a year ago to save for our upcoming trip, using the same budgeting principles. The whole trip is being done with cash. Get rid of credit cards and other loans because that's what eats away your money like it's nothing. I have 3 loans now besides my house payment and those 3 will be gone before the end of the year. Plan for birthday gifts and Christmas by saving for it each paycheck. Less likely you will have to charge those gifts at the last minute. Same with vacations. Oh, and if you blow the budget one pay period don't throw your hands up and give up saying it doesn't work, because you're going to mess up every once in a while. Have fun staying at home and enjoy your kids while you can. Sooner than you think they will be teenagers and heading off to college. ) :...See MoreMeyer lemons-please share your tips and recipes
Comments (21)Recently Ina Garten made skillet roasted lemon chicken on her show. I plan to try it using bone-in, skin-on b**asts instead of a whole bird. https://barefootcontessa.com/recipes/skillet-roasted-lemon-chicken ETA: I originally tried to post this an hour ago, but it never posted. Could it be the word b**asts? I tried again with the edit and it went through immediately. ???????...See MoreMerrittIsland
