Kids (and dogs) do love the snow, but not me!
Right now, my back is killing me from shovelling,
and I am only half way through. I am getting old
for this stuff. It may be time for me to get rid
off some of my figs and make some garage-room
for a more useful snow-blower...

If you get a snow blower George then a small and inexpensive one will do. I have one of those large 8.o horse power ones and it just wears me out.

Mine can throw the snow 30 or 40 feet or better but a total waste of money.

Rafed that so true i had a 6 monkey ward special worked for years long as i kept replacing the belts on them every other year which of course always broke when we had a good snowfall darn thing.
One day several years back when i needed it i pulled it out made one pass and saw a bunch of shiny balls on driveway i said good bout time something else finally broke. It was the bearing that attached the shaft. Anyways shoveled rest of season and neighbor was throwing out 1 of those little toro blowers, i asked for it and simply took the gas line off and cleaned it and tank put in new plug and adjusted the 2 carb screws, its been running good last 2 years i just have to keep going out there because of its size to blow the snow. Lots of folks do not drain the gas tank and the oil and gas mix just sits there and clogs everything up for the next season. But 1 day i wont even own a snow shovel. ; )
George perhaps some of us have Florida in mind i know i sure do but have to wait for now.

Been scary raining in California, mud slide and fallen trees kind of storming that isn't supposed to stop according to the 10 day forcast.

Plums/prunes had already started to bloom and about 1/4 of the apricot trees. This rain will probably knock the heck out of the crop this year. It knocked about half the blossoms off the trees already.

I'm hoping for a break in the weather too. I've got enough figs started that I feel like it is a fail safe source of home grown fresh fruit. Still it would be nice if the other crops that bloom later in the season like cherries and pears have a shot at a good crop.

You know it seems everywhere is getting there share of weather of some sorts last summer and this winter. Geez come good weather - spring and summer makes me wonder what for some hurricane season will be like, or rain for others, or tornado's for still others.
Hope mother nature calms down and presents to all of us decent weather this coming season.

If it's any consolation, it sucks here in Arizona too. It rained half an inch here last week, and we're supposed to get a some more of it tonight. Temps in the 70's again today. Figs, nectarines and oranges all begining to leaf out, which means I'll have to fertilize, and weed soon.

I sprayed weeds yesterday, and I'll probably have to do it again in a couple of weeks. So I know what you mean fellas .......

(Sorry. Couldn't resist....having just moved here from Washington and all....)

wait till next year.
Sounds like your fig plants and fruit tree's are starting there season.
Now some pictures of "hope" of whats to come for some of us in the colder snowy area's sure would be a delight to see about right now. ; )

a bad snow storm here in upstate ny.over 20 inches in my area.Spring is around the corner.Will my figs wake up is six weeks?

will your figs wake up in 6 weeks you ask.
I think as the weather warms they will wake up as this has been my experience. Actually mine dont care if there is snow on the ground just the air temps and the way you folks are getting nailed over back east its quite possible figs will have leaves slowly breking out then temps drop all of a sudden them Bam another snowfall. I think all will be fine though and just a winter for some to tell the grandkids about.
By the way did you email me about a perticular plant last season , someone did and i lost all my information when computer went on the fritz. So anyone reading this or i might have to make a seperate post about it , i do recall it was from back east and if memory serves me correct it was an italian fella.

looking outside from my window,the snow is still coming down and it is a lot,yes my figs will make it ,occasionally I have lost some young plants ,but never an older plant.I keep my figs in a very dark place under the house and no heat,for some reason the figs can stand the cold in a complete dark rooom,When I say cold ,talking of temperatures like -6 f.or so.Possible it was me that emailed you .Ciao ,Giuseppe

i send you email via the garden Web but sometimes it does not work . The coldest my plants have felt( 3 years and older) were 6 above in garage last winter when it was 23 below zero outside.
Your so right they can take a good cold least one several seasons old. Im curious are they shielded from the wind.

I did the opposite of most people who changed climates. I moved from San Diego [I grew up less than 6 miles from Jon] to New Mexico, which has more variable...hotter in summer and much colder in winter. There we had avocados, citrus...and figs, while here I have apples, cherries, lilacs...and figs. Therefore figs are sort of a bridge..yummy memories as a kid can continue to this day :-)

While our winter days are almost always sunny, means cold nights. Our first frost-free day is April 15, so I do look forward to spring too :-)
