Yes Henry,It is The same fig a Bayernfeige, that comes from Germany. I have a very Small one and last year was fruitting,or at least it tried to fruit. It had Excellent Tasting,(one Breba fruit). And about Six second crop figs out of wich 3 got ripe. The second crop was only average tasting, and maybe worse than Average. I think the German selected it for Breba crop, because in their short Sommer season only breba will mature,if started early indoors. I will grow it next year too to see if i was right. The breba was just as good as on Desert King, flavor was identical, but got ripe 2 weeks later. Best regards
if you are talking about the german "Bayernfeige" - Violetta, yes. it is available in many nurserys in germany and austria. the german nursery which introduced it praise it for its hardiness. but, as it is known now, violetta is not really hardy. sorry for my english;)
Hlyell, haveyou fund a source to by the Violetta Fig in the South? Violettafig.com lists several nurserys that sell this fig in the states Oregan and Washington, but they do not ship. I have a cousin that lives in Oregan that muches off my parents when she goes to the East Coast to visit her son. My mother asked her to bring one of these figs to her for me. My cousin said she did not like fig and would not bring one.
Thanks Vasile, Apnoist, Vern and Jose for posting. Vasile, just to confirm what you said...the Bayernfeige fig is the same as the Violetta fig shown and described at violettafig.com, correct?
Yeas Henry,The picture shown on Violettafig.com,show a fig Exactly like the one I am Talking about. Leaf and fruit and all are the same. It could improve quality of main crop once it get older but,i doubt it will improve a lot so to be called excellent, like I can call the Breba crop. Too bad the breba is not as bountifull like the main ,on this one. Also the 3.5,to 4 inches in diameter seems exagerated to me. I think it will produce a 70 grams Breba and a 40 grams main, but that could differ with the location and climate. Best Regards
Henry:Type Bayernfeige Violetta in the Search box on this forum and you will find my post ,from last Sommer and also a post by a very well known collector in Italy(Viadei). My post has the picture and Evaluation of the fruit from Last Sommer. Happy Reading
