The Bayernfeige Violetta

There have been some recent discussions of this fig here.

When first mentioned on the net the claim was that this was the cold-hardiest fig known, good to -4 degrees fahrenheit.

I've just come across the tag that was attached to mine when I got it from Cloud Mountain Nursery. A stamp on the tag indicates that the authorized grower is T&L Nursery, a US patent number and then "A. Plattner 2007/1. Plattner, as I understand it, hold the patent.

The back of the tag reads as follows:

"Very Sweet and rich bearing figs! Sure to ripen early in season. Shrubby tree for full sun. Plant in protected locations--close to a wall is ideal. Hardy to 5 degrees Fahrenheit. Winter protection below l4 degrees Fahrehheit recommended.

;Care: Needs plenty of water and fertilizer in spring and summer. No pruning required but possible if desired for shaping the plant"

Not quite the superfig that grows in the arctic, but a good fig anyway.
