These are some that I order from: ~Johnnys- probably one of my favorite very large selection of both hybrids and heirlooms ~Baker Creek- great selection of heirloom seeds also have a lot of unusual seeds not found elsewhere ~Gurneys (Henry Fields is the same also, just with a little larger selection)- I have never had a problem with anything I have gotten from them. But they do not have a very large selection and most seeds are not that unusual. ~Park Seed and Burpee- To me they seem expensive, but they do have some different stuff others do not ~Stokes Seed- Very large selection of hybrids and heirlooms ~Territorial Seeds- Good selection, only thing I have noticed is their seeds packages do not have very good growing instructions so you kind of have to know when to plant, how deep, etc. Not too big of a deal though. That is all I can think of right now. My two favorite cataloges are Johnnys and Baker Creek. Johnnys for hybrids and Baker Creek for heirlooms. Stokes is just behide Johnnys.

I meant to add that these blooms resemble the flowers on the Erythrina poeppigiana, E. lanceolata and E. fusca trees that are planted all over the Costa Rica, especially around coffee farms and often used as fence posts.

Hi Please...tell me that a bunch of these are ugly, invasive, impossible to grow etc. Well, here's my list so far! Carol, While I can't think of anything specific at the moment, I also have gotten the feeling that there are fewer choices, less of the unusual and more of the run-of-the-mill stuff. I think part of it is, as you said, that they need to supply what sells the most. Another factor could be that fewer people may start seeds nowadays, since everybody's in a hurry, and they have more spendable cash for plants. Instant gratification! I remember, as a child, when my grandpa would get his annual Burpee's catalogue, and I'd wonder at all the exotic plants and flowers! And even plant catalogues are less now, Logee's is one prime example. When Byron's mother was in charge, they had way, way more items! Now the selection is quite limited, not to mention MUCH more expensive. I know it's not cheap to heat greenhouses, nor pay a staff nowadays, but I wonder if it is only that. At least now we can search the internet and still find most of what we want......if we even know it exists! That was the nice thing about browsing a catalogue...that you might discover something new at every turn of a page!
