Looking for cold hardy cuttings- Hardy chicago, alma,

Hi there, I am curios if there is anyone out there with these particularlly hardy figs. Id like to make some cuttings for spring and could make a trade or buy them, Im in southern oregon. Only if you are sure its the variety it is.

I have plenty of: alma- medium to large figs, extremely vigorous and fast growing brown turkey- one is a very old variety, pretty good taste, small figs; other produces medium to large figs, greenish and brown, very sweet and rich, the best BT I have tried, and I have tried many celeste- standard black mission- sweet, medium size,not all that rich but very good I may have a few LSU improved celeste, but I doubt it. I will have many more in about a year. How much for 1-year tree?

Hello, my first time posting. If there is anyone in Canada that has any cold hardy fig tree they are pruning and tossing their cuttings I would love to have them. I have already have Chicago figs trees, if you have anything else, please let me know. I live out in Stoney Creek, Ontario (Z6a). I don't have much to trade other then a few palm tree seedlings I'm trying to grow (sooo slow to grow) but I can send money for postage. thanks!! steve

My 3 year old Alma did great to 4 F last winter, uncovered with almost no damage, even the smallest branches.... email me.
I found another cold tolerant fig (3 years old now) that did great next to the Alma ... not sure what it is.
I tried a "Kentucky Wonder" as I could not find a Hardy Chicago. It died to the ground, but grew v fast this summer ... we will see how this winter goes.
Brown Turkey's struggled..covered one did OK. Hardy Celeste did OK with some covering.

Any experiences are helpfull to know about, That sounds unheard of that a fig could withstand 4 degrees f. That makes me excited , the slope of the land can have a big effect where frost a cold settles. im also looking out for sals fig, which everyone seems to be looking for. I have a very old black mission tree that i could trade. the cuttings are from a probably 80-100 year old tree in sonoma county which is the biggest one ive ever seen, it also produces the most figs i have ever seen.

most of my figs are against the house on the south side, so protected (but my thermometer is also there!) My Min Temp this year has been 11F... I know of 2 other big fig trees in Salt Lake that survive uncovered.

Alma has also been hardy for me, doing as well as Hardy Chicago, Brown Turkey, and Celeste. Some people here have complained about lack of fruit but mine is doing OK there as well.

Alma. My alma is about 10ft tall now and gave dozens of figs. The figs I left on till they started shrivelling and almost falling off were the sweetest. Some even ripened very late in the fall (better than the brown turkey at the end of season) Those that ripened late had large drops of "honey" at the base and were v sweet.

I'd had Alma years ago and never got much fruit. It was in a large pot and I didn't even bother giving it away when I gave away my other figs. I figured it was a dud, and it has been neglected for years.
Last spring when I started rooting cuttings I took a bunch a cuttings off the Alma. Surprisingly (they were very weak) they all took, and I suddenly had a lot of Alma plants. I didn't want to take up much room with them, so even though they grew like weeds, I left them in pots that were a little smaller than a gallon. To my surprise they started producing figs.
It would seem that Alma likes to have it's toes pinched - that a congested root mass somehow encourages fruit production. This is just an observation (no proof) - but it would explain one of Alma's contradictions - why it bears resonably for some, but not for others.
I can't guess why some find it hardier than others.
