Moving 'Happy Returns' from garden to pot - any advice?

I have a happy returns daylily in a flower bed that's located directly under a roof gable that's due to be repaired next month. Ive lost a few plants to careless contractors in the past, so I want to move it before the workers even show up. It has lots of buds already but none of them have flowered yet. Should I move it now or wait for it to bloom first? When is the best time to do so (i.e morning, night, rainy, dry)? Should I use a potting mix or soil from the existing flower bed? Should I fertilize it before or after the move? Any and all advice on how to make the transplant go smoothly is appreciated. Thanks
