I found scapes too!!!

It must be find a scape day. Or else I really got into the swing of the new scape hunter reality show LOL! Anyway I have scapes, muliple scapes on three plants along the side rose garden were I have three of the prettier extra early Olallie daylilies planted. The ones I don't intend to get rid of some day, ha-ha (unlike some in the front). Now don't expect me to be posting scapes all over the yard any time real soon as these always go much ealier than than the other daylilies.

And I had to show the terraces garden because my Portulacas that I planted along the first terrace have started to bloom.

Here are some clematis in bloom on one of my clematis towers.

Wow! It's amazing that one-third of your daylilies are reblooming. Sixty-eight of mine have put up rebloom scapes. Before this year, 40 was my most with rebloom. It gets better - this morning I found scapes on two of my seedlings (both 'Spacecoast Starburst' x 'Mama's Cherry Pie'), from winter-sowing in 2008. This sure makes the transplanting worthwhile! Laurel

yea KAY the plants dont know what to do with this crazy weather we have been getting.A iris bloom now? thats pretty crazy too, I have never seen iris bloom this time of year,I have a couple roses still blooming that the deer hasnt ate up yetcourse one of the blooms is Mr LINCOLN and the bloom is high up, dont think a deer can reach it, well they could if they stand up on the hind legs. which I see them doing all the time.My Hydrangea s dont have many leaves on them and certainly no blooms. AVEDON. glad you at least have some verbena blooms. all mine is about dead, the leaves has burnt up on them. what I do have thats very odd right now is a tomatoe plant that is full of tomatoes. they are small and they are all green except 3 thats red.one african daisey plant blooming. I have scapes all over the garden...Only the lates and medium lates aren't putting them up yet. I can tell the very late hard freezes are going to affect early blooms because Bill Watson did the same as Fernstone...The first bloom didn't open but a bit and the clump is quite small now. Others seem untouched by it, Fernstone began blooming 4/23, so for two weeks. It is doing great, but so far it is the only one. And, by the way, I understand the cheat scapes. I received some plants from California and put them in pots for a bit, then planted them...Two weeks later, they had scapes and Tavarest Multicolor opened today...short scapes but full size bloom. kay

Although if we want to raise our Scapehunter ratings, I should most likely yell, "My scapes are better than your scapes!" And we can fight, then people will watch the next episode to see if we've made peace or if I threw a ball into your garden to knock scapes off and such. ")

You know some of the shows were the nature hunter goes around the world looking for exotic animals. Or there's one were the guy goes fishing for river monsters. Well, Scape Hunters could be like that. Only of course the hunt is on for daylily scapes.

Mine would be winning the wimpy scape catagory. My early daylilies always have wimpy scapes. So I would not be claiming mine were better. Well, I guess I could actually just plain LIE LOL!

Scape Hunters. New show. I get a kick out of that. But honestly scape hunters as a catch phrase might just catch on the forum here as slang. For instance on the rose forum they use the term 'shovel prune' which means dig up and toss it. But I have never seen that term anywhere else.

So looking for scapes could be scape hunters :-))

Those Clematis are on the second Clematis tower. That is the new one I did last spring. Those daylilies with scapes today aren't really bad looking but of course not as nice as the fancy beauties that come later.

That's great, Rita. They will be popping up all over.

I bought my very first clematis this year, "Rhapsody". Your's is so pretty, I can't believe I didn't get one before.

Up here in the hinterlands I actually have daylilies blooming, but they are little low species minor crosses, little spidery things all yellow and orange, but I like them--it's a wild garden anyway. A plant I bought two years ago that I can't really identify has three scapes, very slender three foot scapes with grassy leaves--picture of the supposed species growing on a mountain in Siberia somewhere on the net--google daylily minor images Siberia---I will try to find it a mate this Spring but there is not much choice. I do have a lot of scapes on middendorfs,Orangeman,some seedlings of my own--a few of these look like they are on daylily steroids and are over three feet tall---I don't know if I can get last years pics on here--every forum seems different when I try to post pics ----------Weedy

You must be so excited to see scapes. I noticed a scape on ELMORE JAMES some time ago and then, after that, another on the same daylily. This one is registered as an EM, but I sure don't think of May 25 as being in the least bit EM. Interesting that, in this mature clump, both scapes are on the side nearest to the Belgian block edging to the large stone patio. Maybe the heat from the stones is enough to affect blooming.

My only other scapes are on three new-to-me plants from the south -- MARISSA JONEA, ANGELS GATHER ROUND, and NO EXPIRATION DATE. I've left only one scape on MJ and on NED, and I'll probably cut off all but one bloom on each as well, assuming I have the willpower. AGR came to me in the first week of March and had been potted up since then and spent cool/cold times in the sunroom before going outside permanently. I'm hoping that treatment will give me excellent first-time blooms + rebloom.

I also have one daylily that's done. I don't have an ID, nor do I recall where I got it. The color and form tell me it's a real oldie though not a species. Just an orangy yellow with pointy, somewhat starry blooms. Nothing special, but I like the fact that it blooms so early.
