Hi, If you cut them back, they will regrow and hopefully start to bush out more. I've just made the jump to cut back my pepper plants and now I'm seeing new shoots on both sides. I believe you have time. Do make sure when you cut them back there are no flowering buds anywhere left on the plant. You want the energy in the plant, not the flower production at this time. I've got veggie and flower seedlings all over that are starting to look like plants. From my experience, if you cut these back now to bush they may be a little smaller at planting out but in the long run your plants should grow bushier, bulk out more. Thanks Joe, some good suggestions there. I definitely agree with you about ivy geraniums looking good even without water. I tossed some big cuttings onto a pile of nothing and somehow they rooted and are even blooming!! They've been there since early this year and I gave them NO water all year. Except for the rain (what little of it we've had), they are thriving. I have some planted all along a retaining wall at the base of roses and they look terrific once they get going. I can just stick a cutting into dry soil, give it a little water and then forget about it, and it will take root and grow and bloom. Yet, they are not invasive at all. A great plant for easy care and lots of color. Can't believe I didn't think about Helichrysum. I grew it years ago in a too-shady spot and have been wanting to grow it again in a sunnier spot. This spot on the slope would be perfect because it does get some shade beneath a tree until the sun is high and the 'Limelight' variety would be very showy. It looks nice weaving among other plants, like it did when I grew it with the peppermint scented geranium years ago. I will also research and consider your other suggestions. Thanks! Jen

Last year I kept zonal pelargoniums and a scented geranium in a VERY cool bedroom by a east facing window. The zonals did very well, with reduced watering , and the scented didn't do so well, but survived. They were planted in the same pot. I set them outside for the summer. In direct sun. The scented loved the sun, even more than the zonals. Thinking I would have great luck with scenteds. I love these and haven't had great luck keeping them over the winter. Also, I hate to put money into these if I can't keep them over the winter. One of the new scenteds was Atomic Snowflake. I love this one. Thinking it might do better in a warm plant porch with lots more sun and heat than my cool bedroom. In a weeks time it started dropping leaves and looking horrible. Whoops, I took it outside for a few more warm sunny days, cleaned off all the dead leaves and took it back to the cool bedroom. We'll see how she goes. So I'm still trying to find out if the Scenteds like different growing conditions through the winter than the zonals. Oh, and I have one stellar (Vancouver Centennial) that likes the cool bedroom with reduced watering throughout the winter. Sorry for the long post, and hope I made sense.

I have experienced reasonable success with calloused, un-rooted vegetative cuttings and rooting them under intermittent mist at a soil temp of 72F. I prefer using Cloromone rather than Hormodin but with either product I only improve root emergence by 3 days over no hormone.
