Then I think it must be Thuja plicata 'Haley Bop'. Stanley and Sons description seems to fit the bill: A miniature variety of Western Red Cedar. No leaves, just a moss like velvet of green. Like a cocks-comb material but not in a straight array. Grows about 1/4 of an inch a year. Found in seedling bed in Weyerhaeuser tree farm by Dick North. sluice, Happy dance time! It rained .75" here on Friday and another 2.25" on Saturday. I was pulling a dead tree Saturday morning and that .75" of rain had barely penetrated the top 2" of soil. It was that dry. I've not watered anything since Thursday and am so grateful. Here's hoping for relief for the rest of you in drought. Thanks for the tour, Nate! Did you get to see any of the ash runoff from the fire zones in the streams? They're predicting it'll kill a lot of fish and I'm curious how long it'll take to reach the South Platte. Barb

I've seen those two trees on the EE Gardens list - Craig, the owner is a friend of mine (not any impact on this post) - and I think they are both hybrids. The larger of the two would cost several arms and probably a leg to ship to NM and it has been in his inventory a number of years. Nice tree though. Seems to me I have seen these pines for sale at several Tucson nurseries in my travels to that area. Mesquite Valley Growers comes to mind.

That's why I'm a little hesitant of purchasing 'Big Blue', I don't see or hear a lot about Pinus cembra. The photo Song Sparrow has looks spectacular, but I found a second photo and wasn't all impressed. The one I was planning to purchase for this spot was Pinus koraiensis 'Jack Korbit'. Whaas is this looking for a new home lol... actually I e-mailed Song Sparrow to see what happened. It just vanished from there website one day, normally they list stuff as "sold out" if not available. Maybe I'll get lucky... if not I may keep this spot empty until something else comes a long.
