Yes, it would have been better to have evergreen shrubs at the ends with any deciduous kinds used being placed instead in the center. With a tree-like variety not being used at all, in this setting* - most Japanese maples including dwarf kinds register as trees structurally, when the leaves are off if at no other time. And when a Japanese maple fills a space and starts to encroach on access routes it can be a challenge to keep it pruned back in an attractive manner. Like all trees and shrubs including miniature kinds these always become a lot bigger over time than they were when first planted, when specimens in typical garden center sizes are purchased. *Trees register visually as accent points in the garden, with shrubs at corners of rectilinear buildings being best used instead to soften their angles rather than accent them

I seem to recall that you're in S FL, treimink? In that case it is really too late for cucumbers till the fall. Any fruit they produce is likely to be riddled with pickleworms. ETA The pickleworm moth lays tiny eggs in the flowers which become encapsulated by the fruit as it grows. So you get fruit that looks beautiful from the outside, but which is crawling with creepies when you cut it open. It's one of the main reasons why people down here usually pull cucurbits after the end of May.

Dig up as much as you can. Make sure the new hole is ready for it. Make sure the new home has good soil. Water and if you can, cover with a lawn chair or anything that will shade it from the direct sun until it starts to put on new growth.

the usual suggestion.. is to transplant after bloom ... to not interfere with flowering with a lot of stress ... as to when you give up and decide they arent going to bloom .... is left to you ... at some point.. you just want to get the job done ... so you do it .. and not worry about flowers ... when you do go for it... why dont you plant some in the ground ... and then next year.. see which perform properly ... never forget.. the most important thing in a pot is the media.. not the plants... so get a good media for the pot.. and the plants... they can vary wildly ... even without flowers.. its a nice impact with the foliage .... ken ps: other reasons for flower failure may include.. improper fert .. or none.. too many plants in the pot.. improper watering... which can be a function of worn out media that isnt moving water properly thru the planter.. etc .. i bet you are going to find out all kinds of things.. when you disassemble the whole pot .... the hard part will be figuring out what it all means.. lol ... and we will be around to help ....
