I sympathize w/ you-I have at least 30 pots out in the yard, in various beds, that need to be planted. Today was my first day off in a while, & it rained all morning (which we really needed). I'm booked for the rest of the weekend-girl scout camp tomorrow & a birthday party on Sunday, but I'd like to fit in as much planting as I can...

I do a ton of wintersowing so have well over 100 plants to get into the ground and today I went and bought a flat of impatients and a flat of mixed hard to sow annuals. I also bought about 20 4" pots of speciality plants that you can't find seed for - 2 garden phlox, a couple of shrubs but our weather is going to be beautiful the next week so will undoubtably be very busy, however, the rewards this summer will be well worth the hustle now :):).....

For most of my gardening life, I lived in coastal California where you could plant any time of the year without thinking too much about the weather.

Now that I'm here in Georgia, I have so many things to plant and feel pressured to get things in the ground before it gets TOO hot. It all gets done but it feels like a race!

I too order so many plants, buy so many plants when I'm at the nursery and then start freaking out when everything collects in my area of pots to be planted. I may need a miner's helmet (with the light on the front of it) to get them all settled in their places. It's worth it.

Get in line! lol! My deck looks like a small nursery right now from two days of plant shopping. Well, at least it looks pretty. ; )

Thankfully, DH is taking this week off so I'll have extra help if I need it. Which I do because HE went shopping with me yesterday and a few things came home with us that weren't on my list. He's a good sport about it, though, so I can't complain.

Keep your chin up - you'll get it all done. For now try grouping everything in one place, a shady spot if possible, so your watering chore will be easier. And don't forget we want to see pics of all those lovelies. : )

Well, I did get the Daylilies planted and there were lots of them. The roses I had soaking the other day were planted and I received another order of 15 more bare root roses. 8 of them are planted. Going outside now to get more done.

You're making progress. Keep going and you'll get it all done. Anything in pots, can be left in a shaded kiddie wading pool, until you have the time. Just concentrate on the bareroot plants for now. I ordered massive amounts of things for late fall planting last year. It took me longer to decide where things would go colorwise than to actually plant them. Lots of time wasted for me becuase many of the colors I ordered were not what I recieved. I had to wait two seasons to find THAT out, sheeeesh! Now the supposed to be pink daffodils that turned out to be deep yellow are planted right next to the pale yellow hyacinths etc. Oh well, I can move them come fall.

I did also get more roses planted and my two flats of Impatients are planted.

I could swear that I only bought two flats last year but I must have had more because I planted in the usual spots were I put Impatients and I ran out of plants before I ran out of planting spots. Oh well, looks like I will be getting more next week.

I must really be crazy because yesterday I ordered a ton more of daylilies and they are probably going to arrive next week.

Got the rest of my Lily Bulbs planted today but I think its too soon to plant summer flower bulbs like Dahlias and Cannas.

LOL, if you are crazy, we've all got it too.

Honestly every day its just non stop. Yesterday I planted all my 35 tomato plants and that was a project.

Today I started on the second batch of Daylilies that I ordered which arrived yesterday. About four times as many as the first DayLily Order. Only got about half of them done so tomorrow is another Daylily planting day.

I also lost my marbles and ordered 7 lilac shrubs and three crabapple trees which they tell me were shipped out Tuesday and I should have them the end of the week.

4 of the ten boxed roses I had mentioned above are still not planted and there are plenty of potted roses left to plant too.

I haven't even bought my tender annuals like red salvia, marigolds and snapdragons yet.

Have to start my seeds for 4 o'clocks, sunflowers and mexican sunflowers really soon.

Welp newyorkrita..all I can say is bless your heart and I want to see pictures when you get all this planted! You must have a huge yard?? Im a bit jealous!

And time, too...evidently you are not grudgingly yielding 10 and a half hours per day, 5 days a week, to a job like I am.

Try gardening and housekeeping, in two days a week (assuming the weather cooperates).

I work full time every day 7 days a week including holidays as I work at home on the computer. Usually I work in the morning, take some garden time in the afternoon and my evenings are never spent in front of the TV but in front of the computer, processing stuff for the next morning. So its not as if I have nothing else to do but sit around in the garden.

Planted afew more things today. I just keep plotting at it but I do think that my yard is getting more beautiful every year.

I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who buys more than she can easily plant! I am sitting here staring at the sun willing it to move out of my backyard so I can get planting! Only four more hours to go... four more hours...

Housekeeping? Whazzat?

This is misery of my own making, so I guess I can't complain. So far, I've put in about 60 plants. I have one more order that's yet to come in (roses), and then I can really work on finishing up. As of now, the pot ghetto contains about 125 plants. Some can be planted now (or soon), others have to wait until I get done weeding first to clear up some space, and still others have to wait until I'm done rearranging my flower beds and weeding. At the going rate, I'll still be planting well into June. Then of course everything needs to be mulched, one of my flower beds has to be completely revamped, and another has to be edged. By then, I'll have to start weeding all over again.

My main problem is that I took on too much this spring with the redo of a big section of my front yard and turning it into garden sections for Roses and Daylilies. I find that I can either get mateniece type things done and my normal spring plantings or I can get new gardens created but then I have no time for the normal spring upkeep stuff.

Thats what I get for wanting to do everything at once. But once I decide on a garden project, I am impatient, I see no reason to wait for next year when I can have it this year!

This is not the way to get everything done as today I went out and bought two more Clematis to go with the two I already had waiting to be planted, four large gorgeous potted roses in bloom, some Nasturtium plants, a bunch of honeysuckle vines and two Trumpet Vines.

I don't have the flat of Marigolds I bought LAST week planted yet!

I guess I am going to be busy next week.

The only reason that I am in this good of shape for planting is that we are trying to sell our house and move, so I really cut back on buying.
Of course, "really cutting back" means I only have 20 - 4" pot size perrenials to put in some empty spots and 10 winter sown containers, I got my 4 flats of annuals in the window boxes and asst. planters last week :)

Newyorkrita, buying that clematis sounds like something I would have done! I sure hope you will put up pictures when you get everything in the ground! Sounds like it should be fabulous!

P.S. I'm sorry my previous comment sounded snide. I was so jealous that you could get out on a weekday to work in your garden! I used to run a business from home, too, and I know there is an outrageous amount of work involved but I do miss being able to manage my own time so that the work got done and I could grab a little time here and there to do other things (like gardening or housework). Now that the price of insurance has forced me to go to work for a company with benefits, I really resent having to spend 10.5 hours a day (the vast majority of daylight hours) away from home whether there is anything there in the office to do or not. There is ALWAYS something to do in my gardens!!

I am hoping to get lots done over the long weekend but we will see. Meanwhile I got all my summer bulbs and tubers planted yesterday as I had bought them long ago but didn't know exactly when to plant. A whole garden section with cannas, dahlias, gladiolas and some little things mixed in the front row.

lindakimy- Its ok, I just didn't want people to have the mistaken impression that I am home because I am wealthy or have someone else support me since neither is the case and I put in lots of work hours. I am however, lucky that I can spend some time outdoors most afternoons in my garden.

This was a major garden weekend for me as I planted lots of stuff sitting in pots waiting to go in the ground. I STILL have a good batch of planting to do in spite of this weekends efforts but moveing ahead.

I got all 12 lilacs that I had bought for the garden this spring planted and those four pesky clematis are now enjoying their new home too. Plus six roses are planted too.

All the Daylilies I had had I got planted this past week and all my garden annuals are in. Hurray!

All roses are now planted, hurray!! Of course the ones I had left were potted but still they needed planting. I got 10 small roses planted today plus the baby hummingbird mints that I had ordered planted today too.

and I still have about a hundred wsd containers to plant.I still have about 6 roses to get in the ground too.I started 3 new beds this yr.One is strictly red,one is yellow/orange with white dahlias,one is my holding bed,where I am putting most of my wsd plants until I decide where to put them.My purple bed and pink bed has some yellows in them-that I have to transplant.I moved all my perennials out of my 2 rose beds because they were getting so crowded.It never ends.Besided the 3 new beds,I am putting in a bower.I also bought 10 adirondak chairs that have to be painted-2 each of pink,purple,yellow,green and blue.I am making rooms in my gardens,which has been sort of fun.I don't work at a job but this yr.has been so hard for me due to some health problems..but I am determined to finish,if there is such a thing..lol
I too bought way too many clematis,have 2 on every arbor and I have run out of places to put the ones I bought.I may just let them wander thru the beds.I also put up a section of split rail fence to grow red climbing roses on behind my red bed.I have some already covered in a pinkish/white climber that has 11 bushes on it.Absolutely beautiful right now.Next yr.I hope I will not over load like I have done this yr.I do not see me getting finished any time soon....:-( and it is getting so hot outside.I work early morning and late afternoon but today I forgot to come in until almost 5..I am tired

I am myself wondering were I got all this enthusiasm this year for so many projects but I am just taking on things that have needed doing for years but that I never got around too.

I had a nice area of my backyard terraced because it was an unuseable slope (tried to start a garden there many times but it never took). Now it is multi level with one small highest level on top in back that I call the planter box and a really great section in front that is 6 feet wide by about 22 feet or so. Today finially the last row of landscape blocks went on (from 5 rows to six high) and more dirt got thrown in there but it still needs about 4 inches of fill thru the whole thing before it can be planted in.

I have another large daylily order coming next week to finish up the daylily bed in my front yard and then I have more coming that I told me to hold off shipping until I get that back garden (I call it the plateau) done.

When I started this thread at the end of April, it didn't seem possible that all the planting I needed to do could ever get done. Now its late mid June and things are looking up. Yes, I actually did get everything planted except for a few things still on the too do list like plant the three small crabapple trees around the small plastic pond in the back yard.

My front yard rose garden is finished, at least for this year as I got it all weeded, put lots of compost and then heavily mulched last week. Looks great. Still has some bare spots were I need to add roses next year but thats next years project.

My summer planting is going to be mail order daylilies as I have a very large order coming this week and then after i get that done, I will have to order more and start on that big area in the backyard.

My garden is really becoming quite beautiful even if I say so myself!

High-five, NewYorkRita! Sounds very lovely. All I have left to do is a second planting of radish, some onion sets and replace some okra that got stepped on. Flower wise, it's as good as it's gonna get this year. Now we just have to water, weed and enjoy!

Well, for me it never ends, I am just lucky when it slows down. Still my garden really does look great with all the extra work I have put in this year. And then of course, I always have to buy something like this weekend I bought four nice sized blueberry shrubs because they were half price this weekend only.

My mail order daylily plant order came on friday and I have been busy starting on planting them. Got about half the order in ground between friday and today, wil work on it some more tomorrow.

I keep getting the daylily orders planted and then I keep ordering more daylilies. Today TWO big boxes of daylilies arrived in the mail so I am busy planting again. What a project.

I have added daylilies to many areas of my yard and have done a nice new daylily bed in the front yard between two rose beds. Still, I got the daylily bug really, really bad this spring and am doing a big project daylily bed in the backyard.

I had to have a little hill terraced, had to have topsoil and compost brought in and then it all had to be literally carried upstairs to the top section of my yard.
