Mine (at my old house) was in full sun all day and thrived. I took cuttings to bring here and have put them in mostly sun and close to the garage to keep them from freezing. It worked but then a week ago or so, caterpillars got to them OVERNIGHT! but their on their way back after being sprayed.

Sliver lace vine, Polygonum aubertii, is an unofficial noxious weed in western Washington. According to the Garden Wise association between the WNSLA and the WA State Noxious Weed Control Board, this planting option is suggested to be replaced with Clematis or our native honeysuckle, Lonicera ciliosa Another option I'd consider would be chocolate vine, Akebia quinata, which is very tolerant of part shade, produces fragrant spring flowers and is mostly evergreen. Can be problematic in other parts of the country but no invasive issues here.

Good points nippstess and thank you frances and buford. I did forget about hardiness only meaning "Does the plant survive?" Our winters range from mild to cold, but I lived for years in upstate NY, Wi and Montreal, so I don't really consider it cold, but I'm not a rose! DA says it can be grown as a 6-8 fto climber if un-pruned. It's the same plant, just trained differently. I think it's possible because the canes are thin and bendy. Frances, I already got the roses from Lowe's for a stupid cheap $$$ and am trying to incorporate them in something remotely approaching 'aesthetically pleasing!' Hah! :) I really only need it to go to the bottom of the 5' window and not be totally obscured by the 'Sugar Moon' that will be placed to its left. I'm putting Heathcliff in front VQ and to the left of Sugar Moon. I'm trying to plant them out today after rigging up the deer fencing. (Not taking anymore chances) as I already amended the soil. I've waited for some more blooms on the 1st yr VQ to see how it will look. I'll post pics next yr when it matures a bit. (And I fix the concrete and paint the window trim.) Thanks for the input. Oh, and how much sun are your plants getting? Will 6hrs. be enough?

I agree to use grasses and to cluster the Heuchera together. From pictures it looks like Zipper has orange and reds, so if you want to keep that trend, I'd populate the area with orange/red/yellow bulbs mixed around the grasses and then a medium sized Echinaceas that will bloom after the bulbs are done (you can do orange, yellow and or reds if you want to keep the same palette as the bulbs). You can use blue switch grass and yellow Echinacea. Or green grass with red and pink Echinacea.
