First daylily.

Well, had my first daylily bloom today, but it only half opened, then this evening it was all closed up.It was my KETCIA. a gorgeous yellow, but it is full of buds and more scapes, so maybe the next bloom will open up good.

I had my first bloom today too, on Bitsy. And like yours it didn't fully open, too cold and the rain made the petals mushy. More scapes and buds to go. Hope we get some warmer, drier weather soon. Come July, I'll wish for this rain to come back. LOL!

At least its the start of the season. Were there was one, there will be more.

Judy, you know full well that you are among fellow addicts when it comes to buying plants. And I so love the English roses...just be sure to give them plenty of room. They will need it. Vel, it is a record for me, that is for sure. It was one I got in the fall from Bill Maryott, but no way was able to resist taking pictures of those three together. Thanks Cindy, all of my early clematis are covered in buds. They are hapopy with the strange weather. Rebecca is a true red in my garden...same color as my monitor, and the blooms are large. Brad, it seems like I am not seeing lots of buds this year, hopefully you will do better. But then, rain has not been getting us as much. Up until yesterday, it was raining every day, but 1/10" a day. Every time I would go outside to do some work, it would start drizzling. I could easily have worked in the rain, but kept thinking it was going to rain harder. Carol, mine is not blooming yet, but should any day. Lovely bloom, aren't you glad you got it. Nancy is correct. We have about 5000 in the ground and none of them except for early species daylilies have bloomed. Some of the daylilies have scapes but actually flowering is probably about 2 weeks away. The ones that have scapes are the extra early varieties like Stoke the Fire, Lava Flow and Buddy's Betsy. They bloom early June for us usually. Most of our daylilies don't have scapes yet. We grow a few tender ones in a warm greenhouse all winter. As soon as the temperatures begin to heat up in the greenhouse (it can get to over 100 if the fans aren't on), they start putting out scapes. The great thing about growing daylilies with different bloom seasons is you usually have something in flower. We grow a bunch of late daylilies and I won't bother looking for scapes on them for a long time. They usually start blooming late June to August.

Maryl - Stone Palace Rejoice was splotchy again today. I don't remember it being splotchy in the previous two years. It looks more pink in that photo than it really is. In real life it's more of a reddish orangey pink. Kay, Sherry and Kate - Kiss of Paradise had more of a pattern today, but the flowers weren't open flat. Well, RITA, That daylily opened another one yesterday and like the first one,it was only half open, too.but, there is still more scapes and buds on it.Surely all of them won't be like that,and only open about half way.
A Question for you;;When the lily bulbs bloom, how long does the blooms stay open?I have a gorgeous RED one about half open.Its been trying to open for 3 days and its not fully open yet.It sure will be a beauty when it does.

They stay open for a week I think, maybe more. I really never paid attention. But there are many blooms on a lily stalk so there is a nice period of bloom. That one not open sounds stuck, they open pretty fast.

Well, I have 2 more red ones trying to open for a couple days, too,and they not open yet,and neither is this first one.The first one looks like it will be a huge bloom,if it ever opens up.Sure wish it would hurry up and open up so I can see it.Its been cloudy for most of thie week,and so hot and humid.Don't know if that has any bearing on it or not.

Jean, the red ones are RED ALERT. Very vivid dark redish color.

Thank You Rita, for posting the name of the Red Lilies.I have a couple more Reds trying to open today.The first 2 are still not open and today is a week they been trying.Maybe they only get HALF OPEN ???.I assumed they open big and wide?.Gee,I wish they would open,I am so anxious to see a big red lily bloom.
