Rain chains / support for vines

I posted the following in the Tips & Techniques Forum, but thought I would try in Cottage Gardening, too, as the topic seems relevant.... Years ago I purchased a couple of double, large loop rain chains to replace the downspouts on my gutters. The water simply splashed all over the side of the house so I removed them. I discovered, however, that they make great (and attractive) supports for twining vines. Given that I'm not willing to pay the $50 plus each for additional rain chains, I need to come up with something similar to train vines up to four new over-the-door/window trellis supports I'm installing. Anyone have any creative ideas, other than just using hardware store chain which all tends to be too small in diameter? Not afraid of non-traditional materials if anyone has suggestions...
