Japanese White Pine

I picked up a P. parviflora 'Glauca' this week and would be curious to read others experience with this Pine. Its listed as z4 hardy, and interested to know if anyone has experienced any problems growing it in an open, wind swept site. This would be full sun in very well drained soil, but no real protection other than mature P. strobus about 50' to the N/NW of it.

As a side note, do all pines have essentially the same type of roots? This is a Monrovia plant and the roots didn't look like anything I've seen before. They seemed larger and more fleshy in appearance then comparably sized container grown pines I've planted. They were very pliable and easy to separate, and seemed very health overall. Is this due to superior container culture by Monrovia or is there something to this?
