Aren't the highways beautiful in the spring? I'm old enough to remember when they were first seeded with wildflowers - I think Lady Bird Johnson was to thank for this. It seems like I don't see as many wildflowers on the highways as I used to, but when they are there, they are breathtaking.

That was an interesting article on chiggers. Didn't realize you just have to brush off occasionally to help keep from getting them, and that temperature plays a big part. Good info.

I was in Texas for bluebonnet season about eight years ago. We went to San Antonio and then on up to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, a memorable place for any gardener.

I bought a big poster of the same flowers in your photo and it's hanging in my back hall now. Thanks for posting the photo for all of us to enjoy.

We don't have chiggers up here but I never seem to fail to get them when I visit my folks in NC. They are miserable.

Daddy is an amazing man. He remarried at 87. He was still driving his RV until he fell 3 years ago and had brain bleeding. After the surgery for that he has some senility.
So in some ways it was trying. He no longer drives, but thinks he does. Thus the car has to stay there, where he can see it.
My DH had Alzheimer's so I know how to cope with senility.

I hope I have his genes.

Wowzer! The western side of my state has some lovely forested areas, but nothing so colorful as this! If I lived in TX I would be taking lots of long drives right about now to enjoy that beauty.

That is spectacular!

We don't have Blue Bonnets here, but we do have Indian Paintbrush like those and other wildflowers. They will be blooming here in May. With all the precip and the fire on the meadow, there are wildflowers plants all over the meadow this spring, and I think there are even paintbrushes. I will sow Oklahoma Indian Blanket & native Liatris seeds up there this week, so next year they will also be in the meadow, I hope. I harvested the Liatris seeds off native plants last year near my son's place.

Chiggers - now those we do have. I don't get them, but they LOVE my DH. He has scars on his feet and legs from them. Vicious little buggers.

What a beautiful sight! Our state did a wild flower planting on some new highway exits near Bolivar but they didn't come back. It sure was pretty the first year though.

We know about chiggers in the Ozarks! I had them so bad once I had to take medicine for the itching. I must have built up immunity. I haven't had a chigger bit for years. I don't think we have them in the yard.

That is such a beautiful sight. We were lucky enough to drive through Texas one year after a rain when the desert was in bloom. It was a very pretty sight.

I have never see the bluebells in bloom before. Thank you for posting.
