how about i put it this way .. mock orange is one of the most gangly ..... unsightly ... flowering shrubs in the world ... just plain ugly .... and the ONLY REASON to have one.. is for its gloriously scented flowers... to plant one.. in a position where its flower output would decline.. would.. IN MY GARDEN .. make the ugly bush not worthwhile ... in fact.. i have a couple of no name monsters that i usually decide to kill every year.. though i never seem to get to that project .... again ... defining shade is impossible.. and you are left with just trying it... to define its vigor in that spot ... though i would not do so .. you go knock yourself out with it.. if it makes you happy.. DO IT ... you do understand that though various things are drought tolerant.. successful establishment will require a year or two of proper watering???? ask if you need further info in that regard ... ken

Hey Magimay~~ Check your local nurseries. I visit a nursery here frequently, mostly to look and see what I need to add to my wish list. They don't grow their own stuff. So they don't need the pots. Every so often, they compost some of the plants and they throw out all the pots. This guy stacks them up by the dumpster and I can carry home as many as I want for FREE. He's grateful not to have them filling his dumpster. And I get them in all sizes from the little 2" pots and six packs all the way up to huge tree size. The huge tree size ones make great pots just to dump your potting soil in. And I use an ice scoop to scoop it out as I pot stuff. Get two of the huge heavy duty pots and turn one upside down, and sit the other on top of it to put your soil in. No back breaking bending that way. Hope this works for you. Casper

For some reason GardenWeb erased my trade list and I unfortunately did not have a backup, so I have to redo my list. It needed to be done anyway. fawnridge: it's good to actually hear about an experimental difference in taste. Sometimes, things just get passed down without support. I was already thinking about that because lindac also mentioned a 'brew pot'. Perhaps she wasn't thinking of beer making, but they have also been told to use stainless and I do. I have made, and plan to make more beer. I had used the stove top but have acquired a propane burner for outdoor use both for the beer and any future canning. I just got a 24 qt pot from COSTCO. I believe it was just under $50. That is not a bad price, but one would imagine that a 100 gal pot would be very expensive. Since I'm talking beer: I have read that some home brewers are an industrious lot and some have made brewing equipment from commercial kegs using metal cutting tools or welding torches to cut tops off, leaving bottoms to be used as pots. Moosemac: perhaps you know such a person who could help you out?
