My first daylily blooms

Dumortieri is again in bloom, so I may start seeing scapes on my other daylilies in a week or so. I don't usually see blooms on anything else til Dumortieri is finished blooming. It is not a fancy daylily, but nice yellow & I like the orange stripe on its backside.

I have another clump that should be in full bloom very soon, lots of buds with color showing on them. This clump is competing with some iris & doesn't have as many scapes.

Wow, it seems early for a first daylily bloom. At any rate, it is lovely, especially as it is the first one. I like the coloring on it. It almost reminds me of a lily with that shape it has.

HAHAHA MaryL, You learnt me last spring, didn't you with WONDER OF IT ALL. I DO LOVE THAT DAYLILY.I am so sorry I wore every one out last spring with all my photos o f that glorgeous bloom. I promise I will TRY to do better this year.well,I do have some other daylilies I love almost as much, too that has a few scapes and buds already.C:LOWN PARADE has a couple scapes and buds now, and cant think of that other one I love, some thing about MARKETPLACE is all I can remember right now. Thank you all for kindly commenting! Sherry, no I don't have any issues with rabbits. I have rarely seen any around here since it is mostly wooded and no fields...but.....I have had a deer problem in years past. They don't bother my gardens anymore. Apparently deer have a good memory and don't ever want to be sprayed by the motion activated sprinklers again! I haven't used the devices the past couple years and have had zero issues. Maryl, I was born in south Georgia and I remember my Granny's camellia bushes and how I loved them. I have lived up here in NH since 1974 and I love it here but I still long for and wish I could grow camellias! So you are right about zone envy.

Those 2 blooms turned into 6 since this morning . Now a major thunderstorm is happening ( dropped 2 medium sized branches on one garden so far ) and I am sitting here with fingers crossed that I still have some petals on the poppies once it fades away. I just put my Blue and Gold outside this afternoon . He managed to weather the main part of the storm . He actually looked pretty unperturbed by it all . I was waiting for the cage to blow away with him in it . It was a couple of minutes of sheer panic on my part..

Dumortieri is know for being very early, Rita. It has a very unusual trumpet shape, it does look like a lily.
Jean, I remember you talking about snakes! I've never had that problem, had to move a couple of huge frogs out last year that were eating the fish.
My peonies are full of buds this year. I have a couple in bloom, Julia. I have a bright pink one blooming right next to my Daughter of Stars, really bright together.

Very pretty yellow and it is a nice prelude of good things to come!

My peonies are full of buds this year too. Must be something in all that rain we've been getting:) But if it shuts off now, I don't think anyone would be sorry. Praying for it to stop!

Two years ago we got a lot of rain, although not as much as this year, and my daylilies actually had rebloom scapes. I am hoping I will see more rebloom this year.

I have some extra early types also here and they too are yellow daylilies with with the old fashioned form. Actually, mine aren't much at all and if they weren't really early bloomers I would have chucked them. But they are always early so they stay.
