WANTED: Interest in Toronto West End Swap???

A thread has been posted on the conversation side,asking if there are any planned swaps for the west end of Toronto this spring? Wander over there if you know of any or are interested.

My two are doing great. The O-somethingorother bloomed about a week ago and is growing a tomato, and the Aunt Ruby has a few flowers right now. Since they bloomed at different times, and the other tomato plants I'm growing haven't bloomed yet, my family is under strict no-picking orders for the first tomatoes on both plants. There is a picture of the first tomato on the O-something on my garden journal. I think you got a watermelon (or was it a pumpkin, can't recall) and a sunflower from me, right? How are they doing? The sunflower was supposed to grow up into a 6ft tall plant, but I've discovered I somehow got my hybrid seed mixed with non hybrid seed, so that plant might be coming up as a cute little dwarf branching red and I'm curious as to what it is turning into if you decided to plant it. Hi all, sorry I thought I posted a reply to this last week but it doesn't seem to be here! May 18th is fine by me. I think we should aim to have at least EIGHT PEOPLE to make this worthwhile. So far we are three. If anyone is interested please post here that you are coming otherwise it's not worth the effort. I have TONS of new plants coming in from last year...no idea what half of them are. I purchased a great deal from Canadian Tire too and did some generous exchanges with people I met elsewhere online so I'm hoping to do more of that soon too. I really thought last year's Spring get together was fantastic, so many plants left over and so many great things that I even took the leftovers in the end to the school and planted them there. Would be nice to see a good turnout again, but I don't think the FALL one worked out and it doesn't seem like anyone else seems interested in a GTA West swap right now, so I think if we get around EIGHT people reply here that they are attending we should fly with it, otherwise attend the other swaps. I'm pretty full up but if nothing is going to fly I will just give my extra stuff to the school garden. I have lots of interesting plants but couldn't tell you what they are.

The web forum should be up shortly. There are a few problems with the server and they are working on it. Fortunately we have lots of tme and will be able to use real soon. If you send me your email, I will send you the link for the swap forum. I would post it here but that will result in tons of spam. I will also send everyone the address and directions. The directions from Yahoo are perfect and it is really easy to find the house. Eric from West Seattle sent me a link to a wonderful garden a couple of miles from our house in Richmond Beach. They have a regular Tour Day and it is Sat. May 6th from 10:00am to noon. Would anyone like to go on the tour before lunch and exchanging plants? What are your thoughts? I will make sure the people at the garden are aware of how many will be visiting if that is what some would like to do. Here is the link to the garden. I realize this is WAY behind schedule, but maybe this thread will get checked again before next swap. I am also in DeRidder and only a beginner but addicted like nobody's business. I'm in the Markham area. I had posted on here about an east end swap but my post was deleted so i guess Im driving out to the West end instead. Sundays are also better for me. i have lots of pots to trade too.

Hello All!

So, are we swapping? Does anyone have any date suggestions? I think we should wait until after May 24, just to be safe from frost. I know I sound like a wimp, but it's cold out there today!

How does everyone feel about Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 10 a.m.?

Does anyone have a location preference? I'm suggesting the same spot as last year (the parking lot behind sobey's at Kipling and Queensway), because it worked so well last spring, but I'm open to your suggestions.

Let me know what you all think! Let's get this show on the road!

I answered the discussion side of the West End exchange plants post, and I think May 18 is a good time, June 1 or 8 may be too late. It is a Sunday, so it is good for me.
I attended last year and it was a great exchange, lots of plants for everyone.
The place that was held last year is ok.

Oh so THIS IS WHY no one is replying on the discussion side? THANK YOU for letting us know on that side, which was where all the posts were about swaps last year.

Frankly, I gave away much better plants that what I received last Spring, (weeds mostly) so I will continue trading with the folks I've come to know locally and there was a fabulous swap today and so I'm tapped out anyhow.

Enjoy the fun and thanks for the consideration.

It's a shame that there's been some redundancy in creating threads but (for Saralee & others who are annoyed) I will say that this forum is EASILY the worst I have ever used in terms of being able to find & search threads... so please don't blame those who are trying hard to organize something and looking forward to swapping. :-)

I think a tally would be useful to make sure there are enough people interested - from both threads!

Sorry, I can't make it on the 18th. I have a house full of guests. Too bad though, as I have a LOT of extra dahlias and cannas.

I would be interested in either Sunday or Monday.

I have some Red Magic, Missouri Beauty, Tetrina's Daughter, and Stella D'Oro daylilies, some Only the Lonely nicotania seedlings, and some Obedient Plant. I have other stuff but I just can't think of them right now. Only the Lonely is a great annual, 6 feet tall, 6 inch tubular flowers that are very fragrant and the leaves are huge. I also have some castor bean plant seeds that are not too late to plant.

I am looking for hosta, daylily, fern, and brug.

Ciao all-

We can make this event, but I'm not sure at this point what I will have to trade now. Our landlords hired some "landscapers" to mow the lawns and "edge" around the front garden beds. The reality that transpired amounted to tilling seedlings under and weed-whacking daylilies, bulb flowers, poppies, dianthus, lupines, and general havoc wreaked on the garden. If anything, I'll be looking for sympathy and extras. I'd love some non-orange daylilies and other perennials that don't require digging up in the Fall. I'm still hoping sydseeds materializes because I'd really love some bleeding hearts for the shady area along the side of the house.

Hello everyone!
I am still available to come, for May 18 Sunday.

I have peonies, if anybody is interested and many other perennials too many to mention, so I am just going to bring an assortment.

I also have heirloom tomatoes, if anybody wants some,

OK, a small complication... turns out I have something happening in Thornhill for my daughter's school first thing in the morning. Funny how they never tell you these things 'till the last minute. Apparently, is NOT optional. :-(

And then I have to work at noon, so I don't know if I'll be able to make it. :-(((
