Show me your water features!!

I'm wanting to add a small water feature to my garden this year. I was thinking along the lines of an old rustic barrel with a water pump (seen at Lowes) that sits on the barrel and has the water coming out of it. I know wonbyherwits had a beautiful water feature and I would love to see everyone's (those who have one of course!) water features. Maybe I can get some other ideas from all you tallented people!! :O) Not to mention I love looking at your pic's. Maybe they should be shown in the gallery side? You decide..

Ooooo...water features! I see so may I love. If only I had more electrial outlets outside. I'll post mine on the Gallery.

p.s. Petco sells wonderful pond magazines that show the cutest water features and plants.

We have a chain link corner kennel in our garage for when we need to put our Lab out of harms way (like trees getting cut down or deliveries being made). We made our three car garage larger pre-construction. Next house, DH wants it even bigger. There is plenty of room to open doors to all vehicles at one time, no posts, etc. I had a sliding screen (3 panels) made to cover the TV when not in use (aka anytime DH is not home). The door to the right of FP holds DISH equipment, DVR, DVDs, etc. It was made from a wood and tin shutter I purchased at a local antique store. We have a lot of copper inside and out. Laundry room backsplash and pine cupboard in kitchen have copper sheeting backsplash. It was also used on the powder room ceiling with cedar beams. Custom dog gate made from old wood and copper piping. We have grandchildren now so it stays closed all the time. It folds against the wall when not in use: We also used copper pipes outside. DH will be redoing the open portion of the back veranda soon. (Love my porch swing bed!) We have an Ann Sack's Onzen tub (they call it by a different name now) in the MBath. It's about 4ft square and 32" deep. Two built-in seats at different heights. Nice for soaking. Ours is jetted, but we did not get a heater. DH insulted the area well before installation so the heater is not needed or missed. Instead of a built-in vanity, I opted for a faux bamboo piece. Our most unique feature is our English kitchen. I have to question everything they have done. I am checking the specs now. The vent was put in actually while the building inspector was in the kitchen - on his way out to check the vent. It looks exactly like that - a hasty installation. In my experience, though, on this project, the building inspectors are really hit or miss on things and do not look at the specs on everything.

As a friend for Jim's statues I have the following from Constance, Germany. The story I heard was that a renown local sculptor was asked to make something for the waterfront by the city council. He agreed with the proviso that he could make whatever he wanted, and they would have no right to withdraw their approval. They agreed and got the following which stands on a slowing rotating platform on the edge of Lake Constance The statue supposedly depicts a "courtesan" from history who reputedly had the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and the Pope, figuratively, in the palms of her hands. The naked, wizened, shriveled figures in her up-stretched hands are wearing a crown and a pope hat respectively.

making a water feature with a barrel or urn is very, very easy. At my previous house, we made a tabletop fountain out of a glazed pottery bowl, a tiny pump, some rocks and a bamboo spout. It goes together real fast.

What we have now outside was done by a professional landscaper due to all the heavy rock and digging, but the mechanics of the pump is simple. He used a heavy felt (roofing felt?) on the ground to keep the rocks from puncturing the liner, then placed the waterproof liner, then placed the rocks and gravel. The wires for everything run down the side and are hidden by rocks, but we can get to all the wires if we need to. The pump is down at the lower end of the stream along with a filter and a basket. We lift out the basket to clear it of leaves as needed. We pull out the filter and hose it down periodically. There is an overflow pipe (when it rains heavily) to keep the stream from overflowing the banks. It's tied into the same pipe that we use to direct our downspouts outside the garden.

oh, yeah -- we NEVER turn off our stream and waterfall. It runs 24x7. We just watch the water level during dry times and add water from our well, if necessary. It's really beautiful in winter and doesn't freeze because it's running all the time. We have goldfish instead of koi because it's so shallow and narrow --being a 60ft stream instead of a pond.
