To rake or not to rake
Comments (4)That IS where the wall is built, so it may have been foundation soil for that, but I don't think so, because the other wall just has plain old sand. Who knows? Maybe they had to add clay later on to shore up the wall or something. These apartments have been here since the 70s, I think, so it's a mystery that will likely never be solved. I definitely want to protect and feed the worms! I was so thrilled to see worms in the ground here, that I will do just about anything to protect and help them. Plus, that side is a southern exposure, so the leaves are needed to keep the soil cooler for the little wigglers too....See MoreWhat can I do for nice ground cover?
Comments (12)Here on the right side of the photo is my favorite edging because it virtually disappears but does a good job keeping most of the lawn plants from crawling into the beds under the edging. If I wanted it to show more, I would turn the brick 90 degrees to have it long axis going into the bed or use a large patio block, either of which would make a wider, more visible band of masonry.. It is the plastic edging (which is readily available and is easy to use in my soil) buried to the rim so that the lawn hides it, and lined with brick on the bed side. It allows the mower wheels to run on the brick so there is no need to edge. DH, who has the chore of mowing, doesn’t like the trenched edge because he says the mower wheels drop down into it. He uses a powered push mower, not a riding one....See MoreFlowers or flowering ground covers that can take mowing?
