lol Just wait till they come in then you will be rushing to get them all in the ground. I order the cheap ones also Marian, so in a couple of years we will have to compare what we each have and do some trading. Didnt you say you were ordering the cheap ones?

Oh how I can relate. I just started ordering from the Daylily Auction last year. At first I was so careful and didn't bid too much or too high. It became to easy after that. Now I see something I really want, and I bid high. At least I have begun to check the prices where I can actually buy that specific daylily, and I only bid to that point. But I recently got several unbloomed seedlings of some delicious crosses, and I really bid high.
If my hubby knew how I much I've really spent this winter, he'd take my computer and decorate the street.
I hope to share some lovely pics with everyone this summer.
Oh well, we have to have something we can be passionate about, and really enjoy in life. I decided a long time ago it was gardening, and now I'm going to try to create some lovelies of my own. Anyone in SE PA got some land to plant Daylilies. I'm going to be going nuts trying to fit them all in. LOL

Oh, the LA strikes again! Yikes! It is way too easy isn't it?

And you really need to watch because some of the sellers post their "minimum" initial bid at the same price they sell that plant for on their own website. I've started to not only check open/closed auctions but also google every plant before I make a bid. Sometimes you find out it's not such a bargain after all.

Plus, I swear there are people who just go around bumping up bids for the seller (though I know that's supposed to be carefully scrutinized I don't know how anyone would really figure it out to report it).

I'm with you all on buying the less expensive stuff. There are beautiful older cultivars that are every bit as impressive for my yard. The only way I'm getting those newer releases in my garden (for now anyway) is if one of their seedlings turns out to be a look alike or I get an unexpected bonus plant. Seeds aren't too expensive, I can wait for bloom, and I'd rather find out that something won't grow in my climate when it costs a few dollars instead of a few hundred.

Hi all from up here in Canada. Ya know what it's like to watch those home improvment/organise shows and you think HOW did they let the clutter get that bad??? Well that's my garden!!! Seedlings do grow, double fans do get to be clumps! People say clutter grows but that is nothin compared to plants!! My rows have all but vanished... HELP ME......HELP ME LOL...

Well I've done it again. Logged on to the LA and went crazy. My husband would have me put in the looney bin if he knew what I was doing. I guess somethings are better not to share with your spouses. Hey, do ya'll think he would fall for it if I were to tell him it was a TRADE? LOL I will not be lying.(big fat grin) IT will just be trading money for plants.

I've got to stop this. Instead of praying I win, maybe I should be praying I don't get many of the ones I bid on. (frown)

As the saying goes I am hell on wheels since I have learned how to right click then copy then go to google and paste the name from the LA then research the prices so quickly like a MAD women in there.

yes the LA is nice and easy to use but look on it this way ,if you like the looks of the one you want, look on line at the people who grow or hybd. them and compare prices you might just save a lot of funds as a lot on LA is over priced try somewhere else the price maybe less expensive.

Ok, now I know I've lost it. I'm bidding on high dollar seeds and couldn't even grow one from my own seed pod last year. Last year was the first time I've grown a daylily in my gardens. I have over 500 named tall bearded irises. When I saw how far daylilies have come from the old fashion ones like my mother and grandmother use to grow it was love at first sight. Can any of you relate to that? LOL

Anyway, I did get about 15 of those seeds to sprout and grow to about 4 inches, then the fungus gnats got them. Of course at the time I didn't have a clue what was happening to them. That and the fact that I probably didn't plant them in deep enough pots for their roots. I was just thrilled that I did get a few to sprout after reading that they were hard to start from seed. (Which I now believe was not the truth, I just think you need to know how to get them to germinate).

Now some of you people that are complaining you don't have enough room. You can send your extra plants, seedlings, or seeds to me and I'll grow them out for you. I have a little over 35 acres to play with. LOL

Of course I'd have to have at least a start of each one in return. Any takers..... I didn't think so. I dream real big. Just like everything else in Texas.
