Potted Century Plant (maguey?)

I have a century plant pup in a 6ish" pot. Right now it seems fairly happy as a houseplant, and has a gorgeous sivery blue color with lots of bright red spines. It's beginning to unwrap a new 'leaf.'

I'm pretty sure this isn't the "right" way to grow one of these guys. I don't really have a permanant spot picked out, but I'm going to keep this guy growing for as long as I can, repotting as necesary, and will figure out what to do when things become unreasonable.

Anyways, any ideas on when that would be, and how to best care for a potted 8" tall Texas Century plant, how fast they grow?

It seems to like partial sun; but that's about the extent of my knowledge.
