Anyone buying seeds yet?

I thought I saw a post about this, but couldn't find it (maybe on another forum). Anyway, has anyone been buying seeds yet? At the store, online orders, etc.?

While I was out shopping, I picked up some sweet pea and morning glory seeds, as well as a few other flowers for the kitchen garden. It's so much fun to mix veggies, flowers, herbs and fruit all together, in one garden :)

I also ordered some seeds from Scheepers...including cleome! White for one area and lavender for another. Also got the emerite pole beans with lavender flowers and purple pole beans with purple flowers. I get these every spring and they're so wonderful! They're beautiful together and then you get green and purple beans, which also turn green, when you cook them.

How about you? Any great finds? Anything you buy every spring? Thanks for sharing :)

This is LATE for me to buy seeds! I need a few more seeds, and am putting in a last herb seed order for the year, but I have made some very large seed orders already this year. I usually order seeds the very first day that they are available (I get so excited waiting for them!!), the only place I generally order through the year is Gardens North, so that I can get the shrub seed I want. Right now I have about 10 little golden leaved 9 bark poking up their little heads from the soil :)

Ive been ordering lots of poppy seeds this year to plant out front it fill in all the bare spots and to have seeds for next years, this is my first try with any kind of seed. I did save seed from my day lilies its a mix of all the ones from the side yard to also go out front

Megan, Congrats on the little sprouts! My first pepper sprout was a "Biker Billy" jalapeno, and he beat every other pepper plant by two days. With a name like Biker Billy, you expect to be "first", I guess. I grow hundreds more tomato plants than I need to grow as well, but never have any trouble giving away the extras. Some of them go to friends in her our neighborhood and others go to work so Tim can share them with his coworkers, but many of them make the trek to OKC in April for the Spring Fling. I had potted up most of the tomatoes from my first round of seedstarting and those are the ones basking out in the sun today. Yesterday I potted up the rest from that round, and today I started seeds for the second round. It always freaks out people who stop by the house for one reason or another in the early spring and see hundreds of cups of seedlings lined up on the patio, on tables, on the sunporch, etc. It is fun to have extras so I can say "would you like some plants?" My poor little plants were shivering in the cold wind when the cold front came through at mid-morning but now that the front, the clouds and the heavy wind have passed, they're sunning themselves and enjoying a beautiful afternoon. Now, if only the soil temps and air temps will hurry up and get to the right level so we can plant them in the ground! Dawn

I have 3 different start dates I'm in N VA. Will be planting mostly in Self Watering Containers. Also have seeds winter sow for in ground planting once they sprout and are transplanted into the ground. Looking for Early Spring this year and prepared for the worse with a finally sowing mid March for my most favored tomatoes. Goose Creek, Wes, KBX, Indian Stripe, Ghost of Laos, Cherokee Green, NAR, Brandyboy, Brandywine Sudduth, Matina,Purple Passion, Aunt Ginneys Purple, Sungold, Black Cherry and TYW. Next week I'll be potting up the 1st group that were started 1/22 to 20 oz cups and placing them inside the Rubbermaid containers to finish hardening off. 2nd group started 2/08 will be potted up March 8th and 3rd group started 2/19 will be potted up 3/22. I haven't started seem as of yet. I did get some miniature roses potted into separate pots. They seem to be doing great. I am also very tired of snow. A week or so ago most of what we had melted but we got another 9" of the stuff and so now have to wait for that to melt. I would like to get my water garden uncovered but can't even think of doing so until the snow melts off of it. I also would like to check my flower gardens but they are also covered with snow and it will be awhile before that melts.

I started 13 seed trays this weekend. I stole, er, um, borrowed one of DH's wire storage reacks out of the garage and set it up in the kitchen and filled it up with trays of those little peat pellets. I'm using a heating pad with 15-minute automatic shutoff under the tomato seeds to provide a little extra warmth. I had to place it in front of a North-facing window because we have such a long porch overhang on the east side. I have grow lights going over the trays except, the shelf is 3' wide and the grow lights come in 2' or 4 feet lengths. Aaarrhghghg!!!!! I'm suffering the "10 hotdogs and 8 buns" syndrome. Need I even mention that the 4 footers are not twice as much as the 2 footers, oh, no, they're more like 4 times the cost. Oh, well, for better or for worse, I started seeds this weekend. I also started cleaning out my vegetable garden beds and cleaned out my tool shed, planted a few cannas and daylilies, and sorted out my seeds in preparation for the Spring Swap at Forest Park in Fort Worth. Yes, like girlgroupgirl, seed orders here need to go out before Christams to be sure of getting what you want. I only wanted a few vegetables and they arrived a couple of weeks back. Some are already coming up.

I ordered from Diane's Flower Seeds back in December and then from Hazzard's on New Year's Eve to take advantage of their end-of-year free shipping--salvia, Fuji pink balloon flower, Cos Rouge de Hiver (heirloom French Romaine) lettuce, Echinacea Pow Wow Wild Berry, salvia, veronica and eschscholzia/California poppies Thai Silk Appleblossom Bush. Also ordered gaura/wandflower, salvia & blue-eyed grass from Swallowtail in January along with some gorgeous pansies. I set up nearly 60 seed trades but none of the seeds I ordered from vendors was offered for trade so I didn't duplicate anything I bought. Most have already been winter sown but a few will go out closer to spring. It's snowing here again. I'm guessing from what I see out the windows there's another 4-6 inches to add to our 80-inch snowfall total this year.

I use the seed exchange and harvest my seeds so I haven't needed to buy in just about forever.

While shopping at the Rural King store for a nail punch, I had my eye on a pack of blue bachelor buttons. Used to plant bachelor buttons alot years ago. Also Pincushion Flower, do you remember those? They may go by their botanical names now on the packs.
