Ack -- is my Cedar tree dying? Please help!
Comments (1)It's an Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis) not a cedar (Cedrus). Does look a bit thin, though the foliage that it does have looks reasonably healthy. Hard to diagnose anything useful from the minuscule pic size that this forum allows. Check for the usual suspects like bagworms. Resin...See MoreMy Two Gardenia Trees are Dying Indoors in Wisconsin. Comments (16)Exactly, try to just keep it alive until you can put it back outside again. Most look like crap by the end of a winter indoors unless they are held in a very warm humid greenhouse with moving air and full sun. If you want hardly an issue at all, as long as the back porch does not get below 40 degrees at anytime. that is where I would put mine making sure not to over water with some supplemental light unless that porch gets lots of daylight and sunlight. When it comes to mine, I would much rather keep them on the colder side to prevent unwanted wilted growth, pests and dropping leaves. I also use mainly fresh water, bottled, or rain water. NOT TAP. No problem. Keep us in the loop please. Spray the leaves often and use a running fan 24/7...See Moreis my oak tree dying? please help!!
Comments (16)I find it hard to believe with that much mulch piled around that tree that the trunk ever saw a weed whacker or lawn mower close enough to do damage to the trunk. The damage is consistent with trees that are planted too deep, having the root flare smothered. Or it might be a mulch volcano, which would produce the same results. Chances are, if he has another tree with the same problem, then both were planted the with the same incorrect planting practices. I didn't read this whole thread but has anyone asked the OA to sweep back the mulch and/or soil to find out where the root flare is? It certainly would be fun to find out. Comments (10)The roots were coming out of the pot it was in. which is why I moved it to a larger container. It was super happy when I did that in March. Lots of buds and leaves plus new growth. I checked the root ball and it is not root rot. It’s a citrus soil is there a better mix you like? This tree has been outside and has never been an indoor tree. i sprayed with neem because the twigs started going brown and it was not root rot. I did see cobweb s and black spots on the leaves too. Mostly it gets full Sun from about 10-6 or so....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
