White (Salt-like) residue on kumquat leaves?

When my year-old kumquat tree arrived from Wayside Gardens a few days ago, the top of its leaves were covered in a powdery white residue, similar to salt residue. It just washes off leaving a healthy green leaf underneath. I understand there's a citrus powdery mildew, but looking at pictures of powdery mildew online, my leaves seem different.

I'm a bit new to all of this. Would they have sprayed anything on the leaves before they shipped it? Or do i have an infection to deal with?

That could simply be residue from water droplets. To know if it's from a different sort of spray, you'd be wise to ask the grower.

Almost surely not an infection and likely just water marks. Especially if it wipes off as easily as you say and it doesn't feel slimy or unnatural between your fingertips.

Wipe all the leaves off and see if anything returns. I wouldn't worry though.

I am confused. You had mentioned that you did a light root pruning. When you speak of roots coming out from the base bottom. I am assuming that these are now beneath the new soil in the pot you repotted it into? They will become larger (thicker) over time and more will be visible as you raise it every couple years or so. If you raised it a bit when potting it will be fine. Make sure that the caudex does not burn in hot sun and leave in one position when it is acclimatized to sun (when settled after potting) as turning can result in the caudex getting burnt. Rick

Oh thank you all so much!! Miss sherry, I only have one citrus tree actually planted in yard so far, it was here already and it's a Washington navel dwarf, and thought it was dead after all the freezes last winter and all the cats eating leaves,but recently a few shoots of new leaves started growing out from root, original tree (it's tiny) is all dead wood so idk what's going on with the new stems popping up, they are kind of on side right next to the "dead" stems. I need to plant something and get it established before I get bombarded with eggs next summer! Thanks for the coffee suggestions!! I always have coffee around so will try tomorrow!! Thanks again everyone!! So far looks like all of the cats are okay with the lime, had a few that wandered around for a few hours, I guess looking for lemon leaves. Lol, I had one 5th instar a while back, moved him indoors to feed him older satsuma leaves and leave new growth on lemon for the little cats, he had just molted into last instar, and anyway, moved him in, he didn't eat satsuma leaves or the orange leaves I tried and then he made his sling and pupated, never even purged, never ate one bite after molting last time, but he eclosed just fine and flew right off after a couple hours!! You might have psyllids, and those "salt like' grains are what is known as psyllid sugar. Rather than copy and paste or retype info, I've linked to an older GardenWeb thread about psyllids. Mineral deposits in the water or spray on fertilizers. Nothing to worry about.

probably just from water, i get that on all of mine and i think its from my sprinklers

It could be dissolved solids from the irrigation water (Ca, Mg, etc), but it's more likely that it's residue from a prophylactic fungicide application.
