My first reaction matched Kim's -- -- that you don't need another palm there. As the remaining sylvester enlarges, the scene will look finer and finer. Two other things jump out as not looking so good: the hedge lining the driveway the lack of groundcover in the palm island. Instead of giving a more inviting look for the overall entrance, the hedge acts as a visual barrier. What's it hiding? The front of the house, the cars and driveway are not ugly! But what is? ... the barren and bleached mulch area! ... which almost looks as if it's being featured since it's front and center with a nice backdrop! All of the shrubs in the island are not the solution. The ideal thing would be to plant the whole island with a low groundcover and being in Tampa, the perfect GC would be perennial peanut. There are two floating around the area. I have both and prefer the one with the darker leaves and more intense yellow flowers. The lighter one is not quite as robust looking though it's still nice. I can't see that the island is a good place for any shrubs at all. Behind the island, it looks like the central area of your house is clustered up with odds and ends plants. Really can't see it too well for all the smothering, but I think you need to address this area. If you were to move in closer, such as to the city sidewalk, move the cars, stand on a box and re-photograph the scene, I think we might be able to see enough to make some suggestions. As it is, too much is hidden. Not this year, but next, find a spot for about 100 or more large caladium bulbs (not potted plants.) They come up quickly, are highly adaptable to light conditions and are the least demanding seasonal color that anyone in our area can have. While they are supposed to be annual, I had some that came up for 4 years and looked great every year. Then, suddenly, they didn't. But getting that many years out of them was a bargain. (Do not get the puny big box bulbs. Get the ones from our Florida growers/suppliers in Lakeland, Lake Placid, etc. They can be ordered through the mail.

Lord knows I love Hicks yew, but it grows 3-4 ft. spread and 8-12 feet high. I would not put one of those next to my house. You can prune them into a hedge, but pruning is not everyone's forte. Looks like Novice has some kind of yews already up against the house. That's why it is very difficult to advise someone on plant choices, because everyone is different in terms of taste, desire to do maintenance, family, pets, time, etc. Your landscaping really isn't that bad. It just needs to be maintained and pruned for the most part. I'd focus on the area around the front steps, and just edit the edge islands, there seems to be weedy plants in those areas and the mature trees and shrubs could be pruned a bit to make them look more aesthetic.

I think the evergreen shrub on the right corner looks fine. (The others not so much.) You need a tallish shrub at that corner anyway. I definitely agree with a solid color on the front door. And the over and under trim on the double window on the right looks a little odd. I'm guessing you might be able to remove the top trim piece cause there might be brick under it, but I'm not so sure about the blue trim under the double window. Maybe you could paint it to blend with the brick? Or plant something tall enough to hide it but not hide the windows. I like the deep blue on somebody's sample picture above. Could you paint everything that's currently baby blue?

The "before" picture showing shrubs lining both sides of the walkway should be enough to permanently scare you away from reverting to that scheme. As Bio says, it will make the walk look narrower. It will look less inviting and feel it, too. You definitely need to extend the walk to the curb as it has the look of an abandoned, unfinished project. Try to find the best match to the stone as possible. You'll be forgiven that there will be a "shadow" where the new meets the old. Over time, it will lessen. You could widen the walk a little (8" each side) by bordering it with brick laid sailor course. Or by using a plain concrete band if that's your preference. If you're going to include a bed around a tree, don't make a little bed around a large tree as the proportions will be way off. Tree beds are not good for annuals (which must be changed out periodically. They are better for permanent groundcovers or perennials that serve as groundcovers. When you have a lot of grade change, shrubs below windows do not need to be matched kind. What's important is that they have the same relationship where they meet the window. What everyone said about deepening the bed ... for sure. Instead of 2, 3, or 4,' it should be 6' at the shallowest and flare to meet any deeper bed configuration. The house could use another tree off of it's right corner to balance the picture. Color is always nice by the entrance. Colorful perennials wrapping the corners is another way to interject some seasonal color. It would be good to someday replace the lamp post with a taller one.
